Obsidian Shore
The Obsidian Shore, also known as the Duchy of Sharhaven is a region to the south of Styx. It is the coastline of the Obsidian Sea, an ocean found in the great cavern of Aman-ya.
The Obsidian Coast is as far as the Greenbright grows to the south and roughly where the ocean starts the formations end. In the dim light of the crystal and the moss lies this coastline with shores of dark sand.
The people of Sharhaven have long settled this region and have built many dykes to fortify their towns and villages against the tides.
The largest settlement is Sharhaven itself with the magnificent castle called Sharhaven's Crest perched on cliffs of black rock. Sharhaven is the seat of government where the Duke of Sharhaven traditionally lives and goes about her business.
The coastal region has been plagued by invasions of a most sinister nature for many centuries: the villagers call the invaders "Rhynraen-Anruth", in the Umbraen Elvish tongue, "those that came from below the sea" and periodically they come to the beaches and the villages to raid and pillage.
They then retreat back into the ocean taking with them villagers as prisoners and though nobody knows what happens next and none have ever returned what follows then is a tide as red as blood and a great storm.
The storms unleashed by the vile magic of the Rhynraen-Anruth are so strong that even the greatest dykes cannot withstand and one can almost feel even Sharhaven's Crest rumble on its seat of rock so whipped by unholy breeze.
The villagers of Sharhaven live in fear and yet do not abandon their ancestral lands entirely, many have fled into the walled interior of Sharhaven proper but many villages still remain after each invasion and each horrid storm.
Sharhaven has historically been ruled by the Tharnova noble family, as of late the old Duke's half-brother, Ryld Tharnova VI. has replaced the old duke in what many consider a coup d'etat.
Though originally the populace was shocked by the idea a man could rule and the way the rule was taken the new lord has since ordered to systematically strengthen the defenses of both Sharhaven and the outlying villages against the invaders from the sea making many more hopeful than they were during the rule of his half-sister.
Niemandslandt is a small village located about halfway between Styx and the Obsidian Shore.
Far beyond the dark waters that the Obsidian Coast rises from lies the Irattaviṭiyaltīvu island chain.
