Erana's Peace

Erana's Peace is a small pocket within the mountains of Northknife Pass. Those who take a few steps off the steep path following the small bubbling stream that runs beside the path, and turn around a corner in the stone, discover a small protected glade within the rocks of the hills. The ground is carpeted with soft grass, and water bubbles from a crack in the rock into a small pool, before flowing across the glade and down beside the path. Ancient almost unreadable runes for the words "Erana's Peace" are carved into the stone over the spring.
Travellers who spend the night resting in the grotto sleep undisturbed and awaken fresh and energised. Local stories tell of a druid-wizard named Erana who spent a great deal of time travelling around the area as she studied the flora and fauna of the desert and the Drylands. In areas where she stayed often, she supposedly wrought protected sanctuaries for travellers to rest in peace. The legends say that these sanctuaries remain hidden to the present day, revealing themselves only to those in dire need, then vanishing again once the traveller has left.
Whatever the truth of the matter, Erana's Peace is found by small groups of travellers through the Northknife pass right when they need it the most, but large caravans are never able to find it. It is always fresh and clean, and the water is always incredibly pure, ice-cold and fresh. Although it issues forth from only a small spring, somehow it becomes a large stream shortly after leaving the grotto, and continues to grow as it splashes down the mountainside; providing a significant fraction of the fresh water the small town of Bralizzar uses.
Grug, the hill giant who works for Bralizzar keeping the Northknife Pass clear of debris and rockfalls, often sleeps in Erana's Peace when it is not in use by others. He has been heard to talk to himself about the "Pretty lady's place", but refuses to say anything more when asked.
Wizards who have studied the glade have been able to make out subtle and powerful enchantments tied into the local ley lines and anchored in the deep stone, although no external trace of the spellwork remains. One wizard who tried to experiment incautiously found himself outside the grotto with no recollection of how he got there, and was never again able to find the entrance no matter how much he searched.
Local legends say that those who attempt to defile one of Erana's sanctuaries find themselves under a curse which can only be lifted by doing some deed for the natural world in the area where the sanctuary is hidden, such as planting and nurturing an extension of a forest, healing a lightning-blasted tree, or digging a well which will provide fresh water to the local wildlife.
