Stympheion is a large country, that borders both the border city of Are-a, and the super-heated wasteland that is Atharis. These massive deserts are home to many underground caves and hidden structures forgotten by time and swallowed by the sands.
Expansive oceans of sand and rock are all that stands between the few towns and cities that call these deserts home. With no recognisable landmarks, except those that are around the 4 major cities, the only way to safely traverse these oceans of sand is via Giant scorpion caravans. Provided they don’t stab you in your sleep.
