The Elderwood

As one of the oldest natural places in Taeva, the Elderwood is regarded as a place of both mystery and wonder. Not only has the forest remained largely untouched for several thousand years, but the forest has also been heavily affected by the Planar Gates leading to the Everwyld, with the whole area being heavily saturated with magic, resulting in a number of anomalies. Today, the Elderwood serves as the homeland of the Cernai, and is also known for having the largest population of nature spirits and Fae creatures in Taeva.

Geography

The Elderwood is a vast stretch of forest stretching from the hills and plains of the Human kingdoms to the lands of the Orcs, and even the northwest coast of Imera. With such a vast stretch of land, the geography is quite varied, ranging from beaches along the coast, snow to the north, fields in between, and trees as far as the eye can see in any direction. There are also various rivers and small lakes of clear water all throughout the area, giving the area a picturesque quality.

Localized Phenomena

The Elderwood is unique among the forests of Taeva for the high level of Aether in the area, which has resulted in some interesting phenomena. Namely, much of the forest has become connected to the Everwyld, a realm of heavily tied to nature magic, so much so that simply wandering aimlessly can result in travellers accidentally crossing realms. Additionally, much of the forest in areas where the boundary between the Material Realm and the Everwyld is at its weakest has been magically altered, resulting in things like enchanted plant life, as well as an increased presence of beings like Dryads, Treants, and Sylphs. The Cernai who dwell in these woods have created paths that allow travellers to pass through the Elderwood without becoming lost in the Everwyld or disturbing any of the various beings that live there, mitigating the risk of travelling through the area.

Fauna & Flora

Animals: Alongside the usual fauna one would expect to find in a forest, such as wolves, elk, bears, and rabbits, the Elderwood is also home to a number of more fantastical creatures, including Perytons, Skvaders, and Jackalopes.
Plants: Alongside the usual fauna commonly found in forests, the Elderwood also contains a number of plants of a somewhat more magical nature, including Emerald Bloom, Glowing Mushrooms, and Aether Lilies.

Natural Resources

Aside from the various animal pelts, horns, and other animal materials that can be found hunting in the forest, the Elderwood is also rich in magic plants that can be used for a variety of concoctions, and is also the only place one can find Faewood, a form of wood harvested from trees touched by Fae magic, and a key component in the crafting of magic staves.
