The History of Tai'Sans Hearth so far

Former Civilizations of what now is Aruël are the Osylanian empire, the tribes of the north, the dwarves of Razorridge and of course the orcs that are native to the area.   The Osylanian Empire came from the union of Vasylanian Elves and humans from the northern tribes. Out of this union sprang a high civilization which swiftly united the continent from the forest border south to the ice wastes north. Osylana fell over a millennium ago, but its ruins remain as a reminder of their presence.   The northern tribes were the human ancestors of the now remaining tribes. Originally settlers that were attracted to the glamour of Dorralia, the human tribes eventually became part of the Osylanians, leaving nothing of their own culture behind.   The dwarves of Razorridge were a loose alliance of city states which died out during the Myconic Plague. Their ancient homes became forgotten and empty except for Dornspring, which was later repopulated by Aruëlian settlers.

Current Species & Cultures

The main populace of Noria are Aruëlian citizens, which are humans. Aruël is a relatively young kingdom which spread from its founding city Tennet northwards, eventually annexing much of the continent. Aruël is less divided by ethnicity and more by faith. If one follows the religion of the Trinity, one is part of Aruël. Aruëls south is far more populated due to the rich soil from which many fields of grain grow. The north is less populated because of a lack of good, arable land. Aruëlians are social people, who place great value in community but also individuality.   A third of the populace and the second largest ethnicity of Noria are orcs and halforcs, who both are viewed as second class citizens within the realm. As a result, some live on its fringes, in the hills and feet of the mountains, while others dive deep into the society, accepting their lower status in exchange for the advantages of the advanced civilization.   Then there are the northmen, which are not descendents of the northern tribes of old, but inheritors of their lands. They are tribal people as well, living in small groups in the scattered wilderness.   Finally to the south is the old elven forest of Vasylana, which is home to the elven family of Thulion. There are some fullborn elves remaining, but most are only part-elf.

Needs & Relations

The Aruëlians live in relative prosperity and only need two things. Land to expand into and cheap workers to drive economic growth. The former they get from the northern tribes, conquering small strips of land at a time, slowly expanding their territory. The latter are gained from orcs which work in serfdom on Aruëlian lands.   Both the orcs and the northmen are not happy with this arrangement but would only ever be able to challenge the supremacy of Aruël if they could organize to act as one, which is highly unlikely if not impossible.   The elves of Vasylana are generally self sufficient. Their culture is very close to nature and they only produce what they need, with no concern for growing their wealth of prosperity. Since the pact with Aruël, they no longer need to worry about expansion attempts south and as a result dont interfere with Aruëls business.
