Mushroom Farms
Thanks to the war RoseThrone's mushroom farms are the city's only independent source of food. While the city now relies heavily on imported food, the mushroom farms were expanded to lighten the dependence on imports and provide an internal source of sustenance. The farms are also the location of most of the city's breweries. well as its one distillery, where the notorious "Dwarven White Whiskey" is produced.
Dwarven White Whiskey is a clear liquor that isn't really whiskey, Some call it the devil's beverage. It tastes like it's something you shouldn't be drinking, which it absolutely is. While several ingredients go into making the conoction, only one remains when it goes into the bottle: alcohol. That's all White Whiskey really is a bottle of pure, distilled ethanol alcohol.
The mushroom patches here are known as Treeholds. The term is slightly misleading, as they are all officially owned by the king. However, the responsibility for cultivating each freehold is granted to a capable family, who is permitted to treat the land as their own as long as they keep it productive. A number of mushroom varieties are grown here, including the blue-green kind with white spots known as Spotted Ravinecaps that can be seen in gardens around the city. These mushrooms are edible and, in fact, are required to be. By city law, any plants grown for decorative purposes must be fit for consumption. This rule was created to enlarge the city's supply of self-produced food during the shortage. Mushrooms grow year-round and most of the varieties here have a fast growth cycle of two months, meaning each plot produces about six harvests every year.
