RoseThrone
The name RoseThrone is almost synonymous with the Fourth House and this is for so many reasons such as it being the entrance to the Fourth House and Stonespine to the rest of Talos, as well as being the oldest major city in the Fourth House as both rose up with the finding or Rosantium. To show the importance of the metal to the city it was placed in the name, the throne for the Chieftain of the Forth Mountain here is made of Rosantium, as well as the symbol of the city is a Rose colored gauntlet surrounded by shard’s of Rosantium which resembles rose petals. Once used as the main trading hub in and out of Stonespine RoseThrone now serves a much more important purpose, after experiencing the seven sorrows the once mighty dwarven kingdom is now using the city as the final stand-off location against the oncoming threats. This has earned it the new name Karak Zak Zanna.
Areas of the City
THE RUNE KING'S PALACE
This impressive structure is not only the royal residence but also is now the administrative center of StoneSpine and all of its Houses. This change was enacted as now thanks to the war instead of the Chieftain of the Forth house sitting here the Rune King is ruling from here temporarily. The palace also holds much more such as the last of Stonespine's treasure vaults under dwarven control lies under here. ( Previously known as the Chieftain Palace. )THE GREAT FESTHALL
Placed in front of the High King's palace the festhall is only open at certain times, such as major dwarven holidays, and on events such as a coronation, royal wedding, or victory in war. When it is open, free dwarven beer is provided all day long to the city's residents (and anyone else who shows up). The House Chieftain or even the Rune King himself can usually be found here during these occasions.THE GREAT HALL
This area once stood as the city's physical, financial, and academic center. Though most things that were once here have now been cleared out to house and tend to the soldiers taking part in the ongoing war. It is the largest chamber of the city which is the exact reason it was chosen for this very purpose.THE NOBLE QUARTER
A residential district where the city's highborn families maintain their estates, known as clanhalls. Unlike most of the city, the Noble Quarter was not excavated. Rather, it is a large, natural cavern. To live here you must be related to a current or past General, Chieftain, or Rune King/Queen. Clanhalls - Clanhalls are the family estates of the noble families or High Clans of Stonespine. Clans are extended families. Some clans only have a few members, while others have over a thousand. Clanhalls serve as a place for the clan to meet but are not residences for the entire clan. Typically, those residing there will be the clan's patriarch or matriarch and their immediate family. As some High Clans are wealthier than others, clanhalls vary greatly in size and opulence. Some are grand manors, while a few are only somewhat bigger than the average commoner's home. As many believe clan halls serve as symbols of status and prestige, most are built as impressively as the clan can afford.THE CLEAR STEEL QUARTER
Home to the largest residential district for the city's commoners and working-class dwarves. The center of many things from the Amethyst Outlet, the city's largest market, the Grand Temple, the Great Hall and so much more.AMETHYST OUTLET
This area was built to solve a problem. The Clear Steel Quarter once had merchants and vendor stalls packed along the sides of every street and square, making movement difficult and leaving very little open space in the area. While the residents all agreed that this was inconvenient, they also knew that the merchants had to sell their ware somewhere. The Amethyst Outlet was constructed to solve this dilemma. Merchants were banished from all streets in the quarter and moved into one location. It is now RoseThrone's largest market by far, featuring all manner of goods for sale.FREEHOLDERS HALL
One of the most recent additions to RoseThrone and the expansion of the mushroom farms called for the creation of Freeholders Hall. This is a residential district adjacent to the Mushroom Farms, where most of the residents spend their days cultivating crops.MUSHROOM FARMS
Once dwarves were laughed at for treating mushroom farming as anything more than a small hobby, how wrong they are now as ever since the sorrows and even more so the war the mushroom farms have been growing in size and importance.ANVIL QUARTER
The Anvil Quarter is RoseThrones industrial center. In addition to metalsmiths, there are glassmakers, stonecutters, jewelers, and a variety of other craftsmen and artisans to be found here. There are four unofficial " districts " in the quarter: Emerald,Ruby,Saphire, and Amethyst. An odd note about the quarter while all of RoseThrone has ventilation shafts above the huge volume of coal burned here necessitates far more than anywhere else in the city this paired with the sound from the collective anvils can lead to some interesting echos and noises.THE FREEHAMMER FORGE
An enormous smithing forge perhaps even the second biggest in all of Talos only behind the volcano of the First House. It was built over 400 years ago by a previous Rune King, responding to complaints by the smiths' guild about an excess of smiths with nowhere to work their craft. This led to the king ordering the construction of a massive public forge free for anyone's use. Anvils and fuel are provided by the city and many independent smiths bring their tools here when the Great Hall of Hammers is full.GRAND TEMPLE
The grand temple is Rosethrones largest religious complex. Rather than being totally devoted to Strahl, he is just the main god with small shrines to many other gods. It also includes a seminary for the training of new clerics and a rectory to house the priests who oversee the temple itself. The temple's large central statue is of Strahl God of the Sun, Minerals, and Smithing commonly seen as the head of the Dwarven Pantheon, and following that belief, The High Solarior is the priest in charge of the temple. The word "solarior" means a priest of Strahl and the position is always held by one of Strahl's Clergy.GREENSTONE HALL
Greenstone Hall is one of the smaller residential districts. Situated just north of the common quarter, the chamber is mostly known for its mysterious titular stone. Even with the small area most of the district normally lays empty this is due to the Mysterious Green Stone and the dwarves unease around it.THE HALL OF ROSANTIUM AND THE HALL OF COLD IRON
The Halls of Rosantium and Cold Iron are a cluster of residential chambers in which a large part of the city's population lives. Since the sorrows, this is one of the places in RoseThrone that has received the most repairs and even some expansion as many of the refugees from the other Houses came to live here everyone banded together to fit as many homes in the remaining spots as they could so as to accommodate everyone.THE BLOODY HALL
The Bloody Hall is one of RoseThrone's most unique residential districts. Unlike the others, all the homes in the Bloody Hall are in a single building. The building, originally known as Amber Manor, was constructed by a fabulously wealthy merchant named Dolum Amberbrow, who also paid for the excavation of the chamber itself. It gained its name from a series of horrible accidents that happened during the construction.THE OPALINE GROTTO
The Opaline Grotto is one of RoseThrone's many residential areas, located in a natural cavern with a small spring, surrounded by patches of mushrooms. The walls and ceiling are dotted with bits of opal, making the chamber glisten with iridescent colors. It is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places in the city. The grotto was once a place to hold special events or ceremonies but now the grotto is one of the city's wealthier areas. While the opal in the walls could be mined out, the Council has decided against it for a number of reasons, including the relatively poor quality of the opal, as well as concerns about a potential collapse damming some of the aqueducts.ROSANTIUM MINE'S AND THE OREWORK
RoseThrone's Rosantium mines, located next to the Oreworks are at the heart of the city's economy. This is, in part, because miners almost outnumber any other profession in the city, but also because the trade that drives the city is driven mainly by Rosantium. The Oreworks is a major industrial district of RoseThrone, located just outside the Rosantium mines, it is the area where the gathered ore is processed and refined being made into ingots.Demographics
100% Dwarf.
Defences
THE GATES OF STONE AND STEEL
-These gates are RoseThrone's only surface entrance and it's the main line of defense against attacks from outside of Stonespine.
-The customs office collects tariffs from all merchants entering the city. Failing to declare any goods brought for sale could be seen as smuggling by the guards.
-A large garrison is stationed here at all times, along with a high-ranking military officer to make sure things are in order in the event of an assault.
-A large stock of cannonballs and ballista bolts are stored here.
-The Watch Captain, whose office is on the ground level, would deal with the day-to-day duties of permitting entrance to the city, turning certain people away, and enforcing the customs laws. He or she would be subordinate to the Garrison Commander.
-The shrine at the top of the ramparts is to Vastile God of Honor, Valor, and Rightful Rulers as a beacon of defense.
Inner gates
-This is the fallback point in the event that the main gates should be lost. With numerous embrasures (arrow slits) on both sides and a long stretch of murder holes above, this is meant to be a stopping point for any attacking army.
-Unlike the main gates, the garrison here does not sleep in a barracks on-site. Instead, they retire either to a barracks in the city or to their homes.
-The garrison here is much smaller than the one at the main gates since they would not expect to have to defend their position from a major assault without warning. Soldiers would be called up from elsewhere in the city in the event of an attack.
Assets
Rose Shard Trading Outpost
-This outpost was built just outside the city gates for the purpose of attracting more traders. The benefits to visiting trade caravans include:
-A caravanserai equipped to handle large caravans and their animals.
-A trader dealing in the kinds of supplies caravans often need.
-Bulk goods traders dealing in RoseThrone's most popular exports (steel, gems, arms and armor, and crafted goods) have shops outside of town, eliminating the need for many traders to enter the city.
-While the caravanserai is primarily for foreign trade caravans, the livery is primarily for use by dwarven caravans returning home.
-The warehouse is for the dwarven traders, who often need a place to store bulk acquisitions until they can be hauled into the city.
