Louvre the Jackal

Louvre "the Jackal" Lazaan is one of the more unusual types of tiefling that one might see in Talonn; their mother was a rakshasa. Anywhere else this may have put them at a severe disadvantage, since rakshasa are known to be devious tricksters, but in Chandris even the most unusual "beastfolk" are accepted, even with genetic deformities. Louvre's left hand is one such genetic abnormality, since rakshasa have backwards hands.   Their father, an ambassador from Sarkhaan, decided to stay semi-permanently in Chandris after Louvre was born. Raised among Chandran nobility yet apart in rank, Louvre quickly developed a skill for gleaning information and social manipulation. Their public persona is that of a soft-spoken, level-headed intellectual-- which is more of less true of their private self, although they'd be the first to admit that their infinite patience is an act. Their arcane skill led to their service as a court mage when Devaas Khan was still a young child, cementing their position. As someone with no blood from one of the thirteen clans, they play their cards very carefully and try to stay out of trouble while moving in the shadows. Their moniker "the Jackal" comes from their Sarkhaanian heritage and a snide acknowledgement of jackals being tricksters.   The one snag that Louvre encountered in their time at court was their relationship with Iäst Jadzeran, a known recluse and oddball whose clan is considered "cursed" after a long series of tragedies. The two met in their twenties, and through shared interests in the arts and travel they became very close. It is not an exaggeration to say that Iäst is the only person who knows Louvre's true self. However, because of his dishonored house, Louvre has had to maintain the illusion that they are mere acquaintances. Iäst does not seem to be offended by this.
