Comet's Tongue

In response to the spread of Mine Pox, Asmain scientists created a medication with an unusual side effect. The consumption of Holasys' Tonic cures Mine Pox in a week; however, it turns the tongue blue for at least a month.

Cultural Reaction

The color indicates medication has been taken, as opposed to whether or not a person is contagious. As such, many Ories living in The Mountain Range fear a person with the Comet's Tongue and give them a wide berth. Some locations permit "the blue tongues" to work but these persons are typically shunned by their coworkers. Harassment may continue after Comet's Tongue fades due to fear and contempt.   In Scayrus, on the other hand, the Comet's Tongue is mocked rather than feared. During The Webbing and many other ceremonies, one of the main dishes produced is The Comet's Tongue. This pastry looks like a typical cupcake but has been magicked to pop and dance across the tongue. After consumption, the tongue is left blue.

Namesake

Comet's Tongue gets its name from the Crowning Comet and the blue appearance of its ion tail.

Causes

Mine Pox is a horrendous condition that spreads fast, particularly in The Mountain Range mining communities. During its incubation period, there aren't many visible symptoms. Once it takes over, there are excessive coughing fits, the body weakens, and skin begins to take on the appearance of stone. In untreated cases, the skin will harden in patches. Excessive movement may cause the skin to crack.   Some Ories try to work through it, although many are forcibly taken to a hospital. Here, they are required to rest and take Holasys' tonic. This medication causes their tongues to turn blue. While they don't have to pay for the treatment, they cannot go back to work until the Comet's Tongue fades.
