The Webbing
The Webbing is a week-long annual celebration in Scayrus, ending on Spider's Day. Mages begin the festivities with an illusion of the Crowning Comet passing overhead. The illusion only fades when the Webbing ritual is complete.
The focus of this event from all Scayruns, magical and non-magical alike, is to celebrate all of the gifts bestowed upon them by Malmi, Weaver of Worlds and Goddess of Tapestries. Gifts from Malmi are not to be sacrificed but enjoyed and appreciated. And so, they graze throughout the week, sampling the many flavors of Scayrus to satisfaction. In the evening, Mages will create lights that dance around the party-goers.
A few common threads tie all Scayrun ceremonies together.
- Celebration of freedom from the anti-magic culture of Orie Country
- Grand displays of magic from dawn through the night
- Food booths from all across Scayrus
The Weaving
Much like the Scayruns' Communal Birthday ceremonies, old clothes and robes are dyed and hung on the Luna Asylum in honor of those tortured within the walls. At the beginning of each day, the clothes are removed and cut into thin strips. These strips are wound on a skein which will be used for the Spider's Day Weaving Ceremony. During this event, non-mages hold long pieces of the thick yarn taut at various angles. Meanwhile, the mages take skeins and weave them into the piece. A tapestry that starts from the middle is formed, but more on that in another article. The Food
While The Weaving ties the event together, the food booths are the major piece for the Webbing celebration. A mile in any direction from the Luna Asylum, food can be found. Some booths operate out of people's homes, while others are set up under tents. A favorite treat in the area is The Comet's Tongue, so named after the Comet's Tongue condition caused by Holasys' Tonic. The dessert was created to mock the fear surrounding the condition. This pastry is similar to a cupcake but it pops on the tongue and turns it blue.
There are many types of food available at The Webbing. Nearly every version has multiple variants for flavor and dietary restrictions.
- Comet's Tongue
- Dragon Puffs
- Skewered Vegetables
- Bird Nests
- Fungi Fairy Rings
- Enchanted Bowls
- Meatballs
