Crowning Comet

Once every couple of decades, The Crowning Comet makes its appearance across the night sky. The Orie Tales surrounding its passing reflect societal beliefs and have been seen to change over time. The Magic Implosion occurred within a week of the comet's arrival, so many Ories, particularly in Western Orie Country, see the comet as an omen of death, destruction, and pain. The Shacan Elite Fighters Unit notes an increase in activity and strength from magical forces during the comet's presence.   Ories living to the East in Asma and Scayrus believe the comet brings tidings from Malmi per the legend of the Heart of Asma.   In Asma, Malmi's Tapestry travels farmhouse to farmhouse every year to honor the Weaver of Worlds and remember Cordella Grove's sacrifices for her home. In the tapestry, the Crowning Comet can be seen passing over Malmi as she bestows her blessings onto the land.   Scayruns, on the other hand, celebrate the comet during The Webbing. While a food-focused celebration known as the Webbing may sound ominous, it's seen to Scayruns as a party. To mock the fear of the comet and magic, they prepare a dessert known as the Comet's tongue. Its namesake is a condition that is feared by the rest of Orie Country. This ritual takes place at the Luna Asylum, a repurposed building once used to experiment on magic users.   The humanoids living in Orie Country are not the only living entities who react to the comet's presence. Borealis Cats scream as the comet passes overhead and continue this behavior for the following 10 nights. While within a close range, the comet induces a change in the predator's hormones. These changes cause their paws to secrete chemiluminescent oils. During the comet's proximity, paw marks scattered about the mountain light up with phosphorescent glow of green, blue, and purple.

Geography

The Crowning Comet is composed of frozen gases and dirt. Where the two tails intersect, the dust tail glistens like the surf across the blue gaseous ion tail. Small objects occasionally fall from the sky during its transit. These items are often sought after by scientists and mages alike.
