The Lord of Blood, Sovereign King of the Pride of Lions, Monarch of the Night, King of Unbearable Light, Lord of Perfume, Maker of all Precious Oil, Lord of the Oil Press, Lord of Ointments, Creator of Alchemy, Great Slaughterer of the Gods,
and Lord of Wine. Originally a god of Gehenna, Shezmu was exiled for the slaughtering of many of his sisters and brothers after one angered his pride and followers. Left with no choice, he turned to the Empyrean Gods who welcomed his initiation so long as he tempers his anger into greater pursuits. It was in this great tempering that he guided his followers in order to enlighten the lesser mortal races on the greatness of alchemical sciences, alcohol, and civilization. It was in this tempering he had also become the Empyrean Sovereign of Civilization, but his pride would never be satisfied. Unamused at the mortality of his followers and the great need of the herding of the mortal races into civilized society, he created the first vampire, Empusa, by giving her his sacred blood.
Empusa was beautiful, proud and relentless in her pursuit of scientific wonder and knowledge. She was a nobody in the Cult of Shezmu until Shezmu saw her ambitious nature, and he grew infatuated with the mortal. After her transmogrification, she became the leader of the Cult of Shezmu through the blood magic she could cast at ease, and it was afterward that she turned many others into what would become the Second Generation of Shezmu. It was after this event that Shezmu would take Empusa as a lover, for she was the only one worthy of tempering his grand pride and ambition.
The vampire would cow the mortal kine to great lengths and even aided the Latonan Empire in conquering most of the planet in the Time of Conquerors. Yet it was in the The Great Holy War, that both Shezmu and Empusa would know death and tragedy. Shezmu would be killed by fellow Empyreans, and Empusa would be betrayed by her children who grew ambitious. Empusa was staked 23 times in her heart and decapitated, but this only angered her. And it was in her sadness and mourning of her lover that she slew all of the Second Generation and ate their souls.
The blood of Shezmu still flowed within the veins of Empusa, and she has vowed to find a way to revive her dead lover no matter the cost. It was after this agenda was established that the Third Generation was made. The Third now worship Empusa as the reincarnation of Empusa as she sits on her throne of bone and flesh.
It had turned out, as the Circle of the Black Star discovered, that Shezmu had separated his violent and frenzied side of his personality from his passive and cool side into a character known as Mehrem. This violent persona eventually would survive the death of Shezmu and continue to manipulate his wife until her final, physical death in 1262. Currently, Empusa lives on as a shard of a soul inside of Amaya Hayashi, the Wave Rider's weapon and is reunited with her husband as of 1263.
