Inani
Founded as the capital city of the Ali Empire in 900 E.D., Inani is the biggest and wealthiest city in all of Tenebra. Approximately two and a half million people make their homes in Inani as the streets are lined with gold and precious materials that sparkle into both the day and night in the most opulent city in the world. Almost every tribe across Ali is established in the city along with almost every race in the world as trade in the country opened up in 1000 E.D. At this advent, the city expanded outward and inwardly to accommodate the extremely high population rate that puts even Tsaangel of Great Temuj to shame. To this extent, Inani has stumbled upon the ancient history of what made up the land upon which the city was built.
Thousands of years ago, the city used to be known as Ithnis where an ancient empire of Atefs, or monarchs, ruled the lands surrounding the city as one of the first great empires of the world. There, in Ithnis, a grim pillar of society had also been made with the blood of her victims, Empusa. Empusa, after her time as a slave, had commanded her children, the Vampires, to spread their influence throughout the world to establish order where chaos had reigned and to command the cattle of the world. Underneath the shining sun of Ithnis, Empusa made her lair of bone, gore, and blood of each one of her enemies and would-be assassins where she would connect to the collective consciousness of each one who held her blood in their bodies. Even when the city of Ithnis was sacked again and again, Empusa's lair remained as she would continue to spy on her children over several millennia. When her children betrayed her as a collective, she smote them and destroyed the entire city of Ithnis in a blood-fueled explosion.
Today, the city with the shining pillar of what society can still be has the great shadow of its past and present that lies deep beneath where a fatal, beautiful hand outstretches itself onto each living Akachi. Princes and princesses disappear from their cradles as prices go unpaid to mysterious benefactors, rebels to what society in the city has become in the shadow of Akachi Chidiegwu Otieno's death are found burned in the streets, and slaves rarely object in mass to their masters. To what extent this severe intrigue passes forth onto the current Akachi is unknown but most likely pervasive on all levels of the city.
The levels of the city and the quality of life are extended onto four districts: Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The copper district is the poorest, most populated, and most squalid part of the entire city as it lies below the city's shadows of the other parts of the district on the East side. The copper district has no great amounts of trade due to being isolated from the port and is where most of the miners, slaves, and hard-labor workers live. The Silver District is where the middle class of the city lives and where many lower-income merchants make great amounts of trade. The Silver District is also where traders and immigrants, who can afford to, live to continue their transactions with both the Gold and Platinum Districts. The Gold District is where the upper-middle class lives in the lap of luxury as trade and riches pour their way into the city and through this district. Heads of trade and mining towns live here along with various mages who can afford to attend the Inani University. The Platinum district is where both royalty and high nobility live having no needs unmet by the whole of Ali. They are welcome to the world's rare and magical gifts that would aid any of their society.
This strict class divide in the city is enforced by highly trained soldiers and mercenaries that patrol the city in droves. The Archers of Inani are known to be the best in the world in terms of accuracy, and the Watcher's Guild is known to have the best champions, fighters, and mages in its employ to patrol the city's populace for both dissent and heresy. However, even with the great amount of enforcement of the city and its grand population, the city of Inani is known to have the highest quality of life in the world. Even the poorest person in Inani has access to the gold that would make a pauper in Boudigia a prized landowner. But it is the pride of the tribe and people that prevents a greater majority of the Copper District from packing up and leaving Ali altogether. Thus the Watcher's Guild is able to maintain their positions in the city without too many crackdowns on tribes and immigrants in the area.
Time will continue to tell if the great and bloody hands that rule the city will continue their prosperity or have their extreme wealth come tumbling down from their own hubris.
