Koschei and Marya
Masters of the Aether
Marya and Koschei have long ruled the lands of Koschevoy, but that was after their ascension to lichdom. Before that period of enlightenment, Koschei had been horrendously tormented by those who owned him, and Marya had been abused by her husband whom she knew was weaker than her. Mava had blessed the pair with Koschie being blessed with the arcane by his gathering of knowledge, while Marya had been blessed with arcane magic through her own bloodline. The pair had met in the same ritual of lichdom that Mava had forged for the pair to utilize. However, Koschei had passed through the trial first and the pair went on to ensure the Resplident Square poured with the blood of their enemies and oppressors.
Many centuries passed as the pair grew more attached and in love with one another, but they had no means to have children. It was a curse that Mava had cast upon the pair to ensure that they never betray her due to her promise to the couple. This promise was never fulfilled as the pair vowed revenge and planned to usurp their fickle goddess. The pair eventually succeeded in gaining apotheosis, killed their goddess, and became the Masters of the Aether. However, they were in conflict as to how to distribute the winds of the aether. Koschei wanted it to be for those who sought it out themselves along with not restraining it to those in power. Marya wanted to distribute magic to those in the lower classes of society and begin a global revolution. This conflict between the Masters has ended in a stalemate and a compromise. The compromise was a rise in many people gaining the ability to channel magic throughout the world. Rich, poor, literate, and illiterate all had the potential to cast magic as the winds were no longer restricted to those favored by a fickle goddess.

The Masters are often impartial to their followers and their wishes, so it is rare to gain a heightened favor from the god of magic. However, blatant disregard and stifling of magic will certainly earn his ire. Source Gods & Magic pg. 35 2.0 Minor Boon: The Masters casts a powerful spell to help you in a pinch. Once, the Masters cast a spell 1 level higher than the highest-level spell you can cast. If you can’t cast spells, the Masters cast a 1st-level spell to help you. Moderate Boon: The Masters grants you insight into the secrets of magic. Add one spell from a different tradition of magic to your spell list. You still must learn it or add it to your repertoire normally. Major Boon: You are granted supreme magical knowledge and mastery. If you are a prepared spellcaster, you can switch one of your prepared spells for another spell you could have prepared in that slot; if you are a spontaneous spellcaster, you can switch one of the spells in your spell repertoire for another spell you could have chosen for your repertoire instead. In either case, you make this switch by using a single action, which has the concentrate trait. (If you are neither a prepared nor a spontaneous spellcaster, the Masters won’t grant you his major boon.) Minor Curse: The secrets of magic become mentally taxing. You are permanently stupefied 1. Moderate Curse: Your magic wars against itself like the Masters’ dueling halves. Whenever you cast a spell, attempt a DC 11 flat check. On a failure, if your spell was harmful, you instead cast a beneficial spell of the same level on your intended targets, and if it was beneficial, you instead cast a harmful spell of the same level on your intended targets. If the spell benefited some targets and harmed others, you cast a spell of the same level that switches who benefited (for instance, changing a heal spell that harmed undead and healed the living to a harm spell that healed undead and harmed the living). You still lose the spell slot for the spell you were trying to cast. Major Curse: The Masters severs your connection to magic. You lose all your spellcasting abilities and cannot gain any future spellcasting.Herald
