Opochtli
Lady of Light and Fire
The draconic ruler of Tolan was born out of a planned marriage between an Asurya, the god of the sun, and an atavistic dragon, Cōātlīcue. Her birth was said to be a violent one that covered the city of Anahuac in a bloody spectacle. This had been due to the rise of the Cult of the Dark Mother of the Woods, known in Tolan as Coyolxauhqui. Her cult encompassed a great part of the city that is now Anahuac and her followers cried out in pleas for her to appear, and for the Dark Mother to slay of the gestating Opochtli. After countless cries of exaltation and grand sacrifices, a great avatar of the Dark Mother appeared and attempted to kill Cōātlīcue before she could give birth. Fortunately, Opochtli had been born into the world armed and blood-frenzied against the forces of Infinite Darkness at the moment of the Dark Mother’s approach. The Queen of Light purged almost every Dark Child of the Mother of the Black Woods until she had reached her target. Opochtli then slew the avatar by decapitating the Dark Mother’s many heads and shining the heart of the avatar upon the light of the dawning sun. This banished the last five of her greatest dark children back to the void from whence they came.
Over the decades of growth, during the Great Holy War she had mastered all forms of combat and could conjure the winds of the Aethereal Plane like a grand dancer of yore twirling away on her enemies. She had made an art of combat that inspired fear and despair in the men and women she would slaughter in either hominid or draconic form. These accomplishments and glory that had been done in the name of her parents had been for not as they had been slain by their own brothers and sisters.
This youthful wildness came ever more to a shattering end when a massive wound into the Void appeared to the south of Anahuac and forced her people into a great stir. She had to abandon the life of a glory-bound warrior and become a disciplined leader for not just her people but for her slain parents. She kept the line of her military until only her main army had remained dominant over all the dissenting others. In the face of a pyrrhic victory, the forces of the Void poured even more out of the crevices of the World Wound. She, along with the thousands of soldiers that remained, continued to march and did great battle with the voidlings until the foreign gods appeared to aid them and sealed away the voidlings in what is now called Mictlan.
Relegated to a now triumphant victory, she settled in her new United Commonwealth of Tolan and would engage in a millennia-long uphill battle against the endless hordes of Darkness. But she promised her people, no matter the cost, Tolan would survive and the world would forever thank them for their grand and agonizing sacrifice.
This promise was fulfilled with the advent of the revival of the Mother of Creation and all of Mictlan would be sealed from the Void for all of eternity. She has also decreed to outlaw slavery and human sacrifice due to both no longer being necessary to preserve the world. Now, Opochtli deals with the appearance of new sapient races and colonization attempts from rival nations in the lands that make up Mictlan.

Motivation
Opochtli's goal is to ensure not just her people's survival, but the entire world. She will do anything to accomplish this goal. This can include horrendous and painful human sacrifice ranging in the hundreds or thousands each year as the sacrifices' soul is used to ensure the barrier of Mictlan stays steadfast against its growing cracks that threaten to turn into shatters each and every day. These sacrifices will be taken at random and equally, as she has ensured her people, from any lot in life. Rich, poor, strong and weak, all are used to ensure that the barrier between worlds remains forever closed. How hopeful this will sustain the barrier, she does not know and secretly it gives her great feelings of dour as she constantly fears that she will fail and the world will quake as the entire world of Tenebra is consumed in the great and everlasting darkness of the Void.
