Kantou

The "belief" of Kantou stems from the ancient times of the Wa in which many believed in the powers of the kami that prevail this world. Rather than true religion, the tradition revolves around an individual's further connection with Yukai, or the Aether in a western sense. Many of the "faith's" beliefs surround local and formerly Greater Kami. However, the Greater Kami of the world are believed to all be extinguished due to the Great Holy War. However, Kantou lives on through the various local traditions and celebrations of the spirits that look over and inhabit the lands in millions of forms.   Category Pantheons   Edicts develop skills useful to your community (especially crafting, mining, and trading), honor your ancestors through traditions and rituals   Anathema dishonor your family, willingly break a contract or oath, irreparably damage an ancestral relic   Areas of Concern ancestry, crafting, Yosei (Sun Elves), relationships   Follower Alignments LG, NG, LN, N   Pantheon Members Pantheon of the Black Star, Nurarihyon

Structure

Due to the faith not having a central doctrine or priesthood, the structure of Kantou is thrust upon local priesthoods and chief priests of local shrines.

Culture

Kantou is less of a religious belief and more of a way of living. It is a matter of what you do than what you believe. Some travelers of other nations have witnessed converts to the traveler's own religions continuing their "traditions" or "beliefs" in Kantou while practicing their new faith with seemingly no contradictions in their minds. Some see their faith in Kantou as more of a part of cultural life in Wa and many would agree on that category and more.

Mythology & Lore

It is believed that long ago, the Greater Kami had a hand in forming the island of Wa's bare grounds while sending the Daidarabotchi to mold the island and kami in the image that the Greater Kami so greatly desired upon the lands. After the fall of the Daidarabotchi and the completion of the creation of Wa, the Greater Kami guided the humans of the land to greater portions of enlightenment and welcomed their new forms with the advent of the Sun Elves upon their lands.   The Greater Kami extended their wills upon the local kami, providing protection, guidance, and fortune to those who paid them in respect and donations. People can become kami over time as well and, by extension, be servants of the Greater Kami. However, this did not aid them in protecting their people in the great advent of the Silence of Yukai and the Greater Kami when the Latonan Empire came to colonize Wa.   When the Great Holy War broke out, the Silence of Yukai and the Greater Kami ended. Prayers were answered once more in times of great desperation and peril, and Wa revolted against their imperial masters. At the near-end of the War, a portal to Makai ripped open in Yukai allowing various Akuma to leak into the Wa. This portal to Makai is referred to as Kimon and exists heavily in the northeastern section of Wa and its winds. However, this would, and still does, largely affect the kami and not the physical people of Wa.   Due to the fluctuation of Akuma in Yukai and the heavy amounts of warfare in Wa, many kami have trouble answering all favors and prayers as it is now a matter of fortune for an individual's luck to determine if their solemn prayer is answered. Even heavily expensive and attributed Omamori, amulets dedicated to a particular kami, are unreliable as the demonic winds of destruction and terror plague every land, every soil, and every soul in a country battered and broken by the daimyo who only crave for more coin to fill their endless coffers.   This aspect changed with the crowning of Sakamoto Ryouma as Emperor of Wa and turning the Empire into a monarchy. He would transform the whole of Kantou as a quad-worship system of local kami, NurarihyonKenzou-Omikami, and the Pantheon of the Black Star.

Cosmological Views

Besides the origins of creation, the Kantou faithful all firmly believe in the existence of the Greater Kami that still exist in their afterlife of Reikai. They also believe in those greater kami that belong to the Pantheon of the Black Star and Nurarihyon.
