Session 3

General Summary

Overview:

In this session, the party continued their adventure from the previous session by finally setting sail for the Dominion of Jarl.

Notable Things that Happened:

  • Before leaving for the Dominion of Jarl, the party burnt down the hamlet of Luxen.
  • The party set sail for the Dominion of Jarl on Captain Anne Bonney’s ship. While on Captain Bonney’s ship, the party studied under her crew mates and learnt some valuable skills.
  • On the way to the Dominion of Jarl, the ship was attacked by a large fish but the party was able to fend it off using the ship’s ballista. As the fish swam away, the sea became shrouded in fog and the magic orb the party found last session began to glow yellow. As this happened, a large, shadowy tentacle emerged from the water and slammed down onto the fish. The fog then cleared and the orb stopped glowing.
  • The party arrived at the Dominion of Jarl's pier but could not find anyone. However, they could hear some banging noises coming from a nearby enclave.
  • The party investigated the enclave and found a dock worker fighting a pack of skeletons. Near him on the ground, the party noticed another dock worker passed out and a small bag. The party ended up helping the dock workers, but only after robbing the passed out man for his gold and his finger. This aggravated the dock workers, but they still offered to introduce the party to the head of their guild.
  • The party followed the dock workers to the head of their guild, who was a gnome warlock named Hula Balu. Upon learning Sir Clancey Bilateral Perpetual Motion Strongarm Jr. IV was gnome royalty, Hula Balu became very friendly with the party. He offered them his support and taught them about guilds on the Dominion of Jarl (to learn about these guilds, visit the diplomacy section on the Dominion of Jarl’s page).
  • The party told Hula Balu they wanted to form an alliance between the Region of Vei’on and the Dominion of Jarl. Hula Balu supported the idea and stated that he could call the guild leaders together to vote on an alliance. He told the party that they would need the support of at least three of the five guild leaders to win the vote.
  • The party split up and visited each guild to try and get their vote. Using some persuasive words, the party convinced Hula Balu to join the party while they did this.
  • The guild of Arceuus’ leader, Nito IV, stated he would vote for an alliance if the party could uncover the source of a magic pressure at the local Temple of Dinh. He suggested checking the necromancy section at the Temple of Dinh for answers.
  • The guild of Lovakengj leader, Abed Nashor, stated he would vote for an alliance if the party could find a rogue warlock that killed his father. The warlock’s name was Damatsu and he was using shapeshifting magic to hide himself. Abed suggested checking an area known as the Settlement Ruins for Damatsu.
  • The guild of Shayzien’s leader, Sir Arthur Mernick, stated he would vote for an alliance knowing it would allow him to fight in battle. He then got into a nearby fighting ring and knocked his opponent across the room in a single punch.
  • The guild of Hosideus’ leader, Aegnor Gildor, stated he would not vote for an alliance because war will lead to the destruction of their land.
  • Sir Clancey and John Doe investigated the Temple of Dinh. They followed the temple's librarian to the necromancy section and noticed he was acting suspiciously. They continued following him until he turned a corner and mysteriously disappeared. On the only bookshelf around the corner, John Doe found an odd looking book that had a story about Nixwhit the Genie bookmarked. In the story, a secret door could be unlocked by saying Nixwhit backwards. After reading this, John said “Tihwxin” and a secret door with a staircase behind it emerged from the bookshelf.
  • Meanwhile, the rest of the party investigated the Settlement Ruin looking for Damatsu. After interrogating some of its residents, the party found themselves at the librarian's house. In the house, the party noticed a faint trail of blood that led to a nearby shack. They investigated the shack and discovered the librarian's dead body under its floorboard.
  • Using Lorvoril’s physic whisper, the separated party was able to talk and relay information. After talking, the party deduced that the librarian Sir Clancey and John Doe followed must be Damatsu in disguise. Learning this, they decided to regroup at the secret room in the Temple of Dinh.
  • While waiting for the rest of the party, Sir Clancey and John Doe investigated the secret room and found a desk with books on it. The books were about Nito, the First Necromancer and how to revive souls from centuries ago using necromancy.
  • The party regrouped and went down the stairs to find a circular room with a moat of souls and a 60 foot tall statue of Nito, the First Necromancer in the centre. At the base of the statue, the party found a plaque with indistinguishable text and a small indent the size of the magical orb found by the party last session.
  • After feeling the orb being magically pulled towards the indent, Immeral Naïlo inserted the orb into it. After doing this, the soul of Nito, the First Necromancer, awoke and began attacking the party. The skeletal spirit almost killed the party but with some quick thinking and powerful strikes, the party managed to defeat Nito and survived another day.
  • After defeating the reincarnated soul of Nito, the First Necromancer, the magic orb began to glow yellow and absorbed him. As this happened, the party noticed Damatsu watching them from a ledge above the room. He was staring intently at the orb when a magical gate appeared behind him and a hand yanked him through.
  • With Nito defeated, the magical pressure that had Nito IV worried disappeared. The party then investigated the room and found some notes along with some loot. The notes were logs made by Damatsu. They chronicled his time venturing into this secret room and performing necromancy in an attempt to wake Nito, the First Necromancer. He seemed to have been trying for months but was never successful.
  • Next, the party returned to Lovakengj, to receive the support of Abed Nashor, and Arceuus, to reveive the support of Nito IV. They then called a vote for an alliance and won four votes to one, with the only no coming from Hosideus.
  • With an alliance formed between the Region of Vei’on and the Dominion of Jarl, the party returned to the City of Vei’on. Hula Balu returned with them to begin acting as an envoy of the Dominion of Jarl.
  • The party visited Grayzag in his tower and he rewarded them with his magic sword known as the Celestialbaine.
  • Upon seeing the magical orb the party found, Grayzag dropped some lore for the players. He explained that after the Kingdom of Sephith defeated the Kingdom of Bethauna in their great war, a group of skilled warriors known as the White Lotus Faction was sent by Sephith to investigate Castle Sol. After a long and difficult journey, the group arrived but found that Castle Sol was guarded by a seal. After some investigation, the White Lotus Faction's wizard deduced that the seal was protected by four souls that rest somewhere in Bethos. The White Lotus Faction was able to find the location of two of these souls, however, a man named Kidou destroyed the Kingdom of Sephith before they could discover how to awaken the souls.
  • Grayzag then explained that the soul of Nito, the First Necromancer, is one of the four souls needed to break the seal on Castle Sol. He speculated that the orb must be the key to waking the souls, and confirmed that the mysterious magic emanating from the orb is celestial magic.
  • The party saw a bounty poster for a bandit named Nowles, the Spider and decided they wanted to claim the reward.

After discovering Damatsu was the source of many problems on the Dominion of Jarl, the party attempted to confront him but was interupted by the revived soul of Nito, the First Necromancer.
