The Adventurer's Guild
Structure
Time and time again, the Adventurer's Guild has distinguished itself from other mercenary groups. The guild has proven itself full of odd yet capable individuals many times all across Hasdall, and the Adventurer's Guild Badge has become a symbol of that strength and diversity. Badges are circular metal discs that can magically attach themselves to most surfaces. Many guild members pin them to shirts or wear them as necklaces, but some prefer to subtly keep it in a pocket. On the opposite end of the spectrum, some members emblazon their shields and armor with them.
The Guild is broken down into seven different ranks, with each new rank holding authority over previous ones. From lowest to highest, the seven ranks of The Adventurer's Guild are as follows:
INITIATE: (bronze badge, bronze background) - the lowest rank, given to all new members of the guild, regardless of prior experience.
NOVICE: (bronze badge, gray background) - awarded to members who have completed ten successful contracts, or by special commendation from a senior guild member.
ADEPT: (silver badge, gray background) - awarded to members who have completed 25 successful contracts, or by special commendation from a senior guild member.
JOURNEYMAN: (silver badge, gold background) - awarded to members who have completed 50 successful contracts, or by special commendation from a senior guild member. The final promotional level of the guild before senior leadership roles.
CAPTAIN: (gold badge, gold background) - awarded by selection of the deputy guildmaster and the guildmaster only. typically involves increased pay and levels of responsibility, oversight, and mentorship of junior guild members. one guild captain is responsible for the management and running of guild offices in a particular city or location. One of the busiest and most demanding positions in the guild.
DEPUTY GUILDMASTER: (gold badge, platinum background) - chosen by the guildmaster only. aids the guildmaster in big picture guild operations.
GUILDMASTER: (platinum badge, platinum background) - there is only one. the figurehead and the leader of the entire guild. overseer of all of the regional offices and everybody that operates within the organization.
Culture
The guild has had a historically competitive nature among its junior ranks. Non-senior members competing amongst themselves to acquire commendations to circumvent their natural promotional steps has been commonplace for years. Seeking the favor of a guild captain is a "recommended bit of advice" for new members.
Public Agenda
The guild has publicly announced a new mission of stability, after a period of flux following the war. Many local guild chapters had their rosters shuffled and depleted as a result of the war, with many guild staff joining the war effort, and many not returning home. This created an imbalance in several local chapters, with some being unable to fully accept all contracts in a timely fashion. This put a bit of a black eye on the guild for a time, hence the guild's new public declaration of stability.
History
Formed in 2024 by Roddar Cardinage and a group of his closest adventuring friends as a small group in Bryn that undertook local contracts and jobs. The group grew in number and renown until the 2060's, when it had achieved guild chapters in Bryn, Merciwyne, Freested, Tenby, Baystead, Edinbury, and Blackmarch. The different guild chapters were quick to find qualified members, with similarly aspirant adventuring types joining local rosters. Over time, the talent pool of qualified adventurers that met the normal standard of the guild dried up some, and senior leadership began to look to The Dûnadaïn Conservatory for new recruits. With the university now supplying the guild, membership rates were full across all locations. The guild sought to expand into new cities, but The Void War derailed plans of expansion, as well as thinned the roster of many guild chapters in Hasdall and Lothlonde. After the war, the guild struggled to fill local rosters, and in turn could not accept as many contracts as were being requested of them. Public opinion of the guild soured some, but in recent years, as life has returned to normal, the guild too, has been able to generate numbers somewhat resembling its pre-war status.
