Drachenium

Human name for the ancestorial homeland of the Drachenaus (Dragonborn or From Dragons).

History

The Drachenaus have long been a preeminent power in Umbregia since the dawn of their civilization. According to their traditions, the original creators and rulers of this world were the Nine Great Dragons of Creation. Each dragon was responsible for the different domains of the world. The Drachenaus are the children of those dragons, and thusly, the pantheon they worship. Supreme among them was Druk'Kalyur; creator and ruler of the heavens. The Ruling Dynasty of the Drachenus; the Druk'arnun consider themselves the sole descendants of Druk, and therefore, their right rule is ordained by the God-Dragon himself.   Historically, Drachenium has been the story of the Druk'arnun and their pursuit of absolute power and authority in not only their own domain, but throughout Umbregia They have waged numerous conflicts with Orcinium over the Northern mountains and lower tundra's; Dwarvinum over the Kragkul Desert and the central steppes south of it; and more recently the Lizardlands and Githyankium in the south. Throughout history there have also been numerous massive conflicts between the Drachenaus themselves, usually between local rulers trying to expand their influence or make territorial gains. The Druk'arnun rarely ever get involved, as it would be considered lowering themselves to involve themselves in the petty affairs of their subjects. Therefore, many of these local conflicts spiral out of control, leading to prolonged periods of suffering and destruction for the Drachenaus.   There have not been many rebellions against the absolute sovereignty of the Druk'arnun's. The few throughout history were crushed quickly with wrathful vengeance. But there were two recent events that began Drachenium down the path to its current state. The first was the disastrous failure of the The Jippon Expeditions Wars in the 1350s AC which saw three massive invasion forces utterly crushed in Jippon. The last of which lead to the Druk'arnun to conduct a brutal purge of the ruling dynasties of many of its coastal lands. The 2nd major event was the 1597 Treaty of Qi'Ko between the Drachenaus city of Verthixius and Githyankium . It gave the Gith complete control of the surrounding valley and the lands up to the Tar'Yarket Mountains in exchange for peace-in-perpetuity. Enraged by this action, Emperor Lymax Druk'arnun sent his imperial forces to burn Verthixius to the ground for their insolence. By 1616 AC, the city and its surrounding lands had been completely demolished, and the former rulers butchered in prolonged, gruesome public displays.   The actions of the Druk'arnun against Verthixius eventually led to the Delmirev Heresy. Delmirev was the former stepson of Lymax, brought into the family for his bravery during the Verthixius campaign. But Delmirev became disillusioned by the way the Druk'arnun conducted themselves internally. Eventually in 1651 AC; Delmirev shunned his position and took up the sword against his Emperor. Delmirev preached the Druk'arnun were not descendants of Druk'Kaylor, merely charlatans. He said the Drachenaus had lost Druk'Kaylor favor, and his mandate to rule Drachenium, hence the period of decline and suffering they had been subjected to. The Drachenaus could only regain their God's favor by destroying the False-House of Druk'arnun. Large swathes of Drachenium, fed up with the brutality of the Emperor and the Druk'arnun's indifference to the suffering of their people, quickly joined Delmirev's cause. To this day the Heresy still ravages Drachenium even as both Delmirev and Emperor Lymax have passed on. Their offspring continue the fight, and dragonblood flows heavily in the lands of the Drachenaus.
