OVERVIEW
This event was a part of the larger
The Duskmorne Conspiracy , a conflict between
The Academy of Arcanium and Uriel Duskmorne. The event began as an investigation by
The Pranathe Three into the disappearance of 12 individual's claiming to be acting on behalf of the Academy.
It should be noted that almost all of the information noted here comes from the series of novels written by Theo Hardie, one of the Pranathe Three, and has never been acknowledged by the Arcanium. Therefore, it should be taken as an account not as fact.
BACKGROUND
Twelve individuals appeared in the Varangian city of Pranathe in 1251 AC. They claimed to be representatives of Jergencrest Arcanium, which was revealed later to be completely false. They came to the town and was interested in a former resident known as
Rylida Tharthestor . They hassled and bullied the local populace, and even were caught breaking into the Church of the Circle. Eventually, theY disappeared as abruptly as they had appeared.
The Pranathe Three were Jergencrest based
The Acastus Consortium members of solid renown. They took a contract to investigate the disappearance. At the time it was not known to them, but this contract was
supposedly sponsored by the Arcanium under direct supervision of
Valorie Boldwinter and
Estmyra Mystbringer.
PRANATHE
In the Pranathe the three began following the trail the twelve had left behind. They learned the group was very interested in the mage Rylida who had lived in the city before, and specifically her attachment to the Church. The three eventually stumbled upon a secret underground laboratory Rylida had once occupied. There they found elements of the twelve, and battled one of the three leaders, a female bard named Desmora. She escaped, and its unclear what her true fate is. Within the lab they found evidence the group had moved on to a small town down the river named Cesme.
CESME AND THE CAVERNS OF SOTECK
In the Cesme the three picked up trail of the remaining twelve. They seemed interested in something buried deep within the Caverns of Soteck. With the help of some locals, the three learned more about Rylida, and what the group might be after. As they journeyed through the caves they were ambushed by powerful, terrifying beasts and vanquished undead in a mysterious crypt (which has never been found henceforth). In the heart of the caverns the three found a tower built by Rylida years earlier. Inside they found more evidence of twelve, and helped the tower defense system reestablish themselves. (It should be noted, this section of the cave has never been found. Rumors persist the Arcanium sealed it up to prevent further excursions). At the top of the tower the three masterfully manipulated one of Uriels great champions; Mertage to leave the tower. Mertage was apprehended later on and served a full penitence. He renounced his previous allegiance to Uriel, and repledged his devotion to Lathander. He served in the
Clarus Oriens until his death. In the tower the three learned of Rylida's death, and the twelve was led by a man named Taeryn Lytesoul. He had apparently discovered the powerful artifact Rylida had been hiding. With the help of the tower's defense system the three learned where the object was too and set off to stop Taeryn.
FINAL CONFRONTATION
The three tracked down Taeryn in an underwater vault high in the mountains near Cesme. They were able to strike down Taeryn and prevent him from obtaining the artifact. This is where Theo says he witnessed two supernatural beings take the artifact, but also that the safe appeared as if it had never been opened and couldn't be. Once again, it is assumed the Arcanium took over the ruin and either destroyed it or snapped it from this plane. Subsequent investigations into the lake have found no evidence of ruins beneath it.
