Lord Noritaka Kanamori
Father of Hanako, Bokuto and
Guardian of Kokei-Sho and first in the line of succession for Daimyo of the Boar Clan.
He has a scar that runs from the bottom of his ear to the tip of his chin- a reminder of his wedding ceremony, when the Boar King had a ceremonial knife duel with Noritaka for the hand of his daughter, Yukio. Noritaka often jokes “you should have seen the other guy!”
He spends much of his day at his desk, reviewing travel papers, sending and receiving imperial affidavits to confirm or deny passports, and generally being a bureaucrat. He finds this work extremely boring, however, and takes every opportunity he can to go out on patrol with his men, as he has fond memories of the camaraderie amongst his fellow soliders. He is a competent fighter, but during the War of 10 Shoguns, brief did not rise very high in the ranks of his uncle’s army. Only once, when a siege of an enemy castle was called for did he assume command of a strike force- his studies of engineering afforded him proficiency with the siege weaponry required to force the surrender of the opposing shogun Shigenori Yamashina, at his castle. Yamashina castle was later demolished, along with the castles of Hanzo’s vanquished enemies and the stones of those castles used to build Tengoku castle, a symbol of the emperor’s supremacy over Hokkai.
Noritaka prefers to fill his days in the company of his soldiers. While he is not absent from the lives of his children, he does leave much of the parenting to his wife and the household staff, meeting with his family perhaps twice a week for dinner, and during important holidays. He gives the most attention to Bokuto, his oldest boy. Bokuto is set to inherit control of Kokei-sho from Noritaka, and so Noritaka wants to make sure that Bokuto is prepared for the responsibility.
He has a rather lovely singing voice, and having studied traditional Kabuki theater, often quotes lines from plays and songs in his daily life. Many of his subordinates don’t understand his references, but defer to him as their leader and react how they feel is appropriate to any given reference.
