Operation Overture

Led by General Takahashi of Shimamoto, this expedition is the largest to explore the Aomori Hinterlands.

Public Agenda

The main goal of this expedition is to find, or find what happened to, the countless souls who have gone missing in the wilderness. It also aims to explore more of the wilderness and eliminate any threats to Oniyuri it finds there.

Assets

The expeditionary force consists of 1,000 soldiers from Oniyuri and some ~200 others, dwarfing all previous exploratory expeditions by at least fourfold. Also with the expedition is a galley and 4 keelboats to be used as mobile bases, for scouting further up the river, and transportation between Shimamoto and the encampment. Since Oniyuri has not needed this large of an army before, the majority of the soldiers are new recruits and are largely untested.
Humans, Catfolk, and Tengu are most suited to be soldiers among the common races. They are equipped with a long spear or glaive (maybe Bill instead as Shad said would be best historical infantry weapon, though maybe wouldn't fit setting), bow or crossbow, and a one-handed sidearm in addition to armor.
