HexGen Spire

The HexGen Spire, or simply the Spire, is the headquarters of the megacorporation HexGen Systems. The structure is situated in New Haven, the capital of Novis, and is the tallest permanently inhabited structure on the planet; standing at two kilometers high.

Purpose / Function

At over 300 stories tall, the Spire serves as the headquarters of HexGen Systems and houses much of their research labs, specialized manufacturing, and recording studios for the corporation. The structure additionally houses accommodations for the corporation's employees, including housing and recreation centers, along with public venues such as a small number of resturants and clubs.   To supply these various ventures, the Spire requires a large network of logistical systems to transport various goods around the structure. Goods are typically transported into the Spire via underground tunnels beneath the spire, or from AAV docks found on the sides of the seven segments. Within the Spire is an automated transport network designed specifically for the transport of standardized cargo crates between the levels of the structure. Likewise, there is also a network of elevators to transport people. All segments of the Spire have a major central elevator shaft that goes to the top of each of these segments, outfitted with special cars that can move left and right to avoid collisions and optimize routes. The seven segments also have arterial shafts that only go up ten floors to reduce traffic on the main shafts.

Architecture

The outside of the Spire is composed of a stark white material with grey wavy striations. The building itself is composed of seven hexagonal segments in a honeycomb pattern. The central segment is the tallest, with each additional segment clockwise from the north falling in height in sequence. The tops of each segment are angled outwards from the central segment, while the top of the central segment is angled north.   Surrounding the base of the Spire is a large park, which separates the structure from the surrounding city center. Known as "Founders Rest," the park is the largest urban green space in New Haven, and its most well-kept. Designed by the Novis-born landscape designer and architect Kegka Soshu, the park follows a traditional Izu "weave" design, which weaves paths into the scenery surrounding the Spire. The park features many species of plants native to Novis, most of which could only be found in sanctuary zones before its construction.

Tourism

The HexGen Spire contains several public resturants and clubs that attract people, not only from New Haven and Novis, but from around Cradle. The View is the most respected of these, which is located at the top of the second tallest segment of the Spire. This club features an unrivaled view of the city of New Haven and the ocean surrounding it. The View caters more to a calm and professional atmosphere, as opposed to some other offerings.   Tessellate is another club in the Spire, more focused on the modern club scene. Located just above the Spire's lobby, this is the most popular club in the Spire, which has commanded its somewhat frequent expansion. Tessellate additionally serves as a way for HexGen to advertise and test their newest products in a public setting.
