Battle of the Blightlands
The Conflict
Prelude
The battle was preceded by the arrival of the small planetoid Vunetania, which fell into orbit around Nerilia as its moon. Mortals living on Nerilia took notice, of course, and some used magic to travel to Vunetania and explore it. They found the imprisoned god Shydar, and a mortal loyal to his cause freed him. Shydar quickly escaped to Nerilia and began spreading his witherblight, building a small force of daemons formed from the souls of his few followers. The area overtaken by the witherblight came to be called the Blightlands, and it rapidly expanded. The mortals fought hard against it but did not have the strength to win.
Deployment
Yumos took notice of Shydar's arrival, having recieved prayers from his followers, and seeing the severity of the situation, he made for Nerilia as quickly as possible. It still took weeks for him to arrive, however, as he had to come from the outer reaches of the solar system, and by the time he got there Sydar had nearly overcome the surrounding mortals' defenses.
The Engagement
Yumos's army of archons and angels engaged Shydar's daemons, matching their ferocity but having greater numbers, and the daemons were soon pushed back into the heart of the Blightlands. Yumos engaged Shydar personally, but Shydar still possessed the same power that Desna and Sarenrae had struggled against. Yumos landed a devastating blow with his axe Lightcleaver, but at the same time Shydar struck Yumos, cursing the wound with a similar decay to that of the witherblight. Both were forced to retreat.
Outcome
The destruction of Shydar's army and his injury caused the rapid expansion of the Blightlands to stop. Parts of them even shrunk as plant life returned. Yumos, while flying back to his ship The Breaking Dawn, was wracked with pain from Shydar's curse, and he dropped Lightcleaver, which fell down to Nerilia's surface and was lost. As his followers joined him, Magnera, his navigator, feared for his life and confessed her love to him, which he accepted.
Aftermath
Shydar and Yumos both recovered fully from their injuries, but Shydar became very wary afterwards, and the Blightlands began to expand much more slowly. Yumos sent his servants to look for Lightcleaver, but to no avail, and he switched to using his sword in the meantime. He and Magnera were married once the grief of the battle passed.
