Rommio-Varlia

Rommio-Varlia is a picturesque land of tigh-knit communities, rich traditions and artistic spirits. However, old rivalries still remain, even after the unification of the kingdoms. Ruling families are intertwined through marriage and vie for power, not afraid to get their hands dirty.   The Kingdom of Elmara was not always unified. In fact, for most of its history is was made up of small kingdoms and city states. After the conquests of the Burbric Empire these lands were briefly made into the Province of Elmara, from which the modern takes its name. However, the Burbric influence only lasted briefly as the empire was expelled from the lands in the Sixty Year Rebellion.After the rebellion, the lands of Elmara were ruled by countless kings and queens, which the most powerful being the kingdoms of Rommio and Varlia. For centuries these kingdoms were engaged in a fierce rivalry, until its ruling families were joined in a marriage around 1000AP. At this point all of eastern Elmara was unified in one kingdom. Another century and a half later another marriage led to the unification of all Elmaran kingdoms and the lands of Elmara were unified for the first time again since the fall of the Burbric Empire.   Rommio-Varlia is a romantic land of rocky beaches, steeps cliffs, wavy countrysides and meandering rivers. These landscapes are dotted with idyllic villages and castellos. The people hold on to old traditions passed down through generations. Whether it is in bustling market squares, or serene courtyards of castellos. There are an artistic bunch with a love for art and poetry. Many famous painters come from this region, but also travelling minstrels hail from this land. Each settlement is a tight-knit community where people share hearty meals and celebrate passionatly.   However, the old rivalry between the kingdoms can still be felt today. People harbour a sense of pride that can easily turn into arrogance over the history of their homelands. While they are all people people of Elmara, Rommic and Varlic people will always refer to each other as such. Communities often hosty festive contests to prove which kingdom was the better one. Most of the time this is done in good spirits, but more often than not there's at least one family that takes it to far and starts a fight, especially when everyone has had a few too many drinks.   The ruling families of Rommio-Varlia are all tied to each other some way or another. Most of them are constantly vying for more powers, plotting ways to strengthen their influence and weaken that of others, sometimes through bloodshed. The current king of Elmara, Alfonte Estente, came to power after the suspicious death of his cousin, who in turn inherited the kingdom under suspicious circumstances. Meanwhile Alfonte's wife, Aluanda, serves as his Spymistress, and pulls many strings in the shadows while surely pushing an agenda of her own. Indeed, not often die Elmaran rulers die of old age.
