Fey

"Fey" encompasses a wide variety of cultures common among Fey species. Being an umbrella term, it is difficult to paint a picture of "Fey culture." However, while each subgroup and community is unique, there are a few commonalities.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Sylvan is widely considered the Fey langauge, and is common to most Fey social groups.

Shared customary codes and values

Fey communities tend to place a high value on natural environments and animals. Respect and harmony with nature is near-universal among this ethnicity, though it is expressed differently in each subgroup, especially between Seelie and Unseelie fey. Creative expression and independence are also commonly-esteemed attributes.   Wizards and sorcerers who try to impress a fey community with spellcraft often find themselves disappointed. As magical abilities are exceedingly common and powerful among the fey, magical prowess is not typically an impressive trait in these communities.

Major organizations

The Feywild, where the vast majority of Fey folk make their home, is divided between The Seelie Court and The Unseelie Court.   Seelie fey tend to share a love of living things, excitement, vivacity, and colour, while Unseelie fey find beauty and affection in death and decay. They bask in quiet melancholy, with some unseelie fey sharing a fascination with pain and suffering in particular. Both factions of fey prize creativity, share a deep connection to nature, and enjoy playing pranks on the material realm.
