Zumash
Zumash (pronounced Zoo-mash) was one of the languages that descended from Empyrian after the collapse of the Old Pale Empire. It originated in the bazaars of Klaractazum at around the same time as Gralce was taking hold in Zalgurim and it diverged as rapidly from its parent language to become the primary means of communication in northern and eastern Myruthea.
Zumash and Gralce are known as the "Twin Market Languages" because they both originated in local trading arenas within two cities that had have long had a historic rivalry, even when they shared a language and an empire under the Old Pale Empire. The subsequent divergence in their patterns of speech, culminating in the rise of separate languages after the fall of the Empire, reflected older ways of thinking that went right back to the Myruthean Unification Wars.
Geographical Distribution
Zumash was spoken from as far west as Arginbury in the foothills of the Eroveth mountains, all the way east to Fogport and in the north as far as Peld and the northern coasts. In the south it contended with Gralce, speakers of both languages living in the plains between Klaractazum and Zalgurim.
