Auris

Aurises are another descendant of the ancient Neiandithal race. These people take on the form of a human with an animal characteristic or characteristics. It was long theorized that the Aurises came from some otherworldly power like the dryads, but after analyzing oral traditions of the Aurises, it has been concluded that they have descended from the Neiandithals like the humans.
The animal that their traits are based off of usually have no relation to their parents. There have been some reports of patterns detected with grandparents, but seeing as they usually die before 50, and are scarcely remembered by any around a generation down, it has been quite tough to gather any data.   Typically females are one of a few animals: rabbit, deer, wolf, and sometimes even squirrel. The rabbits are the most fertile (and typically the most attractive), the deer are pretty average, the wolves are typically stronger, and the squirells are often agile.   Males are typically one of a few animals, bear, deer, wolf, squirrel, or even boar. The bear men are the strongest of them all and typically the most attractive. The deer are fierce warriors, but have great eyesight, so are most often used as archers. the wolves are the smartest and also often warriors, so they are quite useful. squirrel men, like squirell women, are often agile and fast. Boar men are strong but slow.   The animal trait that they have can be a variety of things, such as buck horns or rabbit ears. It typically isn't anything extreme like reconstructed skeletal structure. Their personality often also reflects the animal they are.

Behaviour

Their behavior often reflects their animal. For example, deer are skittish yet strong, and wolves are aggressive but loyal.

Additional Information

They are mainly found in forests, and at that, mainly temperate forests. They are most commonly found in places like Erestria or Kerbia, or the Cabal Empire

Average Intelligence

~80 IQ, not too bad but not particularly good.

Civilization and Culture

Common Taboos

Homosexuality, female strength, and male weakness are all frowned upon heavily. Metalworking is also seen as morally wrong, and they rarely use metal weapons.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

They are friendly with the elves, mildly aggressive towards humans, no interaction with Nymphs. They hate Cornearems, since they've pushed them out of the more northern forests, and they especially hate Dryads, as their fight for the forests have killed many on both sides. It still hasn't ended, as there are a lot of battles and even wars fought between them. Many theorize that Aurises are slowly on the path to extinction because of these wars, as the Dryads always seem to come on top.
