Coliseum of Ares

A modernized Roman Coliseum that takes up ¼ of the city, it is the primary place where training, sparring and fighting happens in Apollo City. Any damage that is done within the coliseum is regenerated, as is the rest of the city, due to the Isle’s abundance of Aether. It is able to mimic different environments, from the jungles of the Amazon to the arctic but it must be shifted before the fight begins and will remain until the fight ends.

Purpose / Function

To serve as a battleground between sparring warriors and bloodthirsty rivals for entertainment.

Architecture

The coliseum takes the form of a modernized Roman coliseum that integrates nanotechnology and Aether in order to make it one of the most innovative battlegrounds on Earth. Its high-tech architecture allows it to shift into any location, terrain and even mirror weather conditions within its small atmosphere. However, in its default state, it reflects the ancient arena of pillars and sand that many gladiators of yore would battle amidst. One trait that makes it much different than many other arenas, however, is its sheer size. As it takes up 1/4 of Apollo City, it not only attracts sold-out shows every time there is an event but it can also house multiple fights at the same time.

History

This was one structure that Ares personally took interest in, telling Sinister that there should be a place for him to absorb the strife of those in Apollo. Because of this, the coliseum was made to be the largest structure in the city for maximized potential of combatants. The residents were also encouraged by Ares' influence to integrate a nanotechnology that could track the information of every fighter in the arena, feeding real-time data to those who attended while making it much easier for Ares to feed off of the strife of those who fought. Instead of only allowing grandiose warriors to fight in the coliseum, word soon got around that everyday fights were sanctioned as a law in Apollo City as long as they were settled in a recorded format. Due to Ares influence, deathbattles and murder was officially legal within the parameters of a heavily-regulated coliseum fight. The change brought in many international tourists as well as quelled many conflicts between Apollans, giving rise to the phrase "Let's bring it to Caesar!" for all those who wanted to challenge someone to a sanctioned fight. Although death matches were the most popular, people nowadays also fight to resolve things as trivial as inability to pay debts, disagreements and love triangles.

Tourism

International travelers come from all over the globe to watch old-fashioned coliseum fights, pouring money into the local economy and even getting involved in disputes themselves.
