The Dyad
The Dyad is the chaotic God of Good Luck, Bad Luck, Fate, Fairness, Truth, Lies, and Mischief. Their power derives from the harmonious interplay of Fate and Folly, symbolized by its floating masks. These masks serve as a divine representation of their influence over the dual forces that shape the world.
Description
The Dyad defies conventional forms, often taking on ever-shifting configurations. However, it frequently appears as a colossal geometric sculpture, hovering in the ethereal expanse. This sculpture consists of an intricate bust, constructed from an otherworldly material resembling stone or metal. At the pinnacle of the sculpture, two immense masks with indistinct yet vaguely feminine features loom. One mask is black, and the other is white, and they slide into position at the front of the sculpture, orienting themselves based on the aspect of The Dyad that speaks. It is commonly believed that the white mask always utters falsehoods, while the black mask always speaks the truth, but certainty in this matter remains elusive.
Activities
During The Moonfall, while the other New Gods of Empyrean were busy either dealing with Tharizdun or the disaster itself, The Dyad appeared before individual mortals all over Ora, from all walks of life and touched them on their foreheads with a single long black finger. These individuals and others along their bloodline in the over 2,000 years since have been referred to as Fateplucked. And they often exhibit supernaturally lucky qualities.
The Dyad rarely waits to be sought out by other entities, often spontaneously appearing during significant events or moments of import.
Its home demiplane, Fortuna, is where it primarily resides. While The Dyad does not actively manage Casino Infinum, a vast gambling hall and resort within the demiplane, it delegates this responsibility to its more sociable avatar, Prosperia.
Possessions
The Dyad is not associated with any personal material possessions or traditional artifacts. However, there are a wide range of magical items and enchantments that tap into the Dyad's realm of chance. The legendary Deck of Many Things is a good example, but also more mundane items like loaded dice, lucky charms, or instruments of fate like weapons, ink pens, or even broken pieces of equipment can all be considered holy items tied to the Dyad.
Powers and Abilities
The Dyad's primary ability is to manipulate the delicate balance of fate and chance. They can bestow insights, luck, and moments of clarity on mortals when the need arises, making their choices, actions, and decisions more meaningful. Through their divine influence, The Dyad can create turning points in the lives of those who call upon them, often leading to unexpected and remarkable outcomes.
On a practical level, the Dyad can manipulate probability, and cause virtually anything to happen within a wide range of its presence.
Worship
In the realm of The Dyad, the interplay of Good Luck and Bad Luck, the paradox of Truth and Lies, and the art of Mischief intertwine to create a cosmic dance of Fate and Fairness. Followers and seekers of The Dyad embrace the deity's unpredictable nature, relying on its guidance in both the most consequential and spontaneous moments of life. Ceremonies devoted to The Dyad celebrate the balance between the opposing forces the deity represents and may include storytelling, games of chance, and the exchange of masks or tokens to symbolize the ever-shifting dynamics of the deity's influence.
The Dyad's worshipers acknowledge that life's capriciousness is part of its intrinsic charm, and they cherish the moments of insight and inspiration that arise from embracing the deity's dualistic essence.
Many temples devoted to the Dyad also double as gambling halls and casinos, known as Dyadens, as the art of chance is primary to worship amongst the deity's followers.
