The Moonfall
In the hush of the cold night, I stood agape as the very fabric of the heavens trembled. With a flick of her divine hand, the goddess Ishtar unfastened Oona, the smallest moon from its eternal voyage, and like a silvery coin tossed in the cosmic well, she hurled it across the velvet tapestry of the night sky. The moon, a radiant harbinger, hurtled towards The Dark God, in a dance of wrath and vengeance leaving a trail of lights behind it smiting him with all of the force of the heavens. The collision birthed a cataclysm of thunderous roars and cascading waves of celestial fire, painting the sky with the hues of divine fury. Amidst the chaos, I felt the tendrils of mortal awe and insignificance clutching at my very soul, for in that breathtaking clash of titans, I glimpsed the intricate threads that weave our world with the threads of gods. -- Rasmus, A Tale of Reshaping - The Account of the Coming of the Gods
The Moonfall is an historic event which took place in the appropriately named, Year of Moonfall during the Reshaping, wherein the goddess Ishtar threw the moon, Oona at the betrayer god Tharizdun, resulting in the deaths of over 3 million mortals, and the creation of Moonfall Gulf as well as the Slash.
During the Reshaping, while The Betrayal War was waging on, the the New Gods of Empyrean confronted Tharizdun in his fortress, the Citadel Black in the depths of The Abyss.
During this climactic battle the goddess of the moon, Ishtar, slammed Tharizdun with her shield so hard that he was thrown through the dimensional barrier into The Substantial and landed on the vast mountainous region of Northeastern Halcyon. The sun god, Ashtar followed quickly through the resulting tear in the Veil and threw his mighty spear, the Ray of Eternal Sunlight, piercing the center of Tharizdun's amorphous form, pinning him to the earth. Then Ishtar crossed the veil, standing on the surface of the world in the form of a 300ft tall warrior queen, clad in Quicksilver Armor. She found her tormentor momentarily trapped and reached up into the night's sky for the weapon of her retribution.
She plucked the moon Oona from it's orbit, crushing it in her hand as she swung it around and flung it with unbelievable impact into Tharizdun, bringing with it the full force of her righteous fury. Oona slammed into the continent of Halcyon, crushing Tharizdun and leaving a massive impact crater. The other gods rushed in through the tear in The Veil and worked together to contain the disaster.
Rona held back the massive tidal wave, preventing the continent from being completely flooded and Anor held onto the atmosphere so it wouldn't be blasted away, stopping the sonic boom, and preventing the impact dust from spreading across Ora and creating an ice age. Meanwhile Silvanus gripped the mountains and stopped the earth from shattering. Primus and Mystra arrived next. Primus stopped the flow of time so no more damage could be done, and Mystra created a magical binding to hold Tharizdun. This gave Selene and Chauntea the chance to heal the surviving mortals and ensure their safety, many people were relocated to new fertile lands to the South and East. The Dyad laughed and cried aternately, appearing inscrutably to various mortals around the world throughout the crisis. It is thought that this was the moment The Dyad originated the line of Fateplucked beings, whose descendents can be found to this day. Though know one yet understands the purpose for which The Dyad did this.
Finally Bahamut arrived, victorious after his epic battle with the Elder Demon Pazuzu. The Platinum Dragon god of justice took in the scene and saw what Ishtar had done. She was still furious and heaving in her anger. Bahamut flew to her side and placed a claw on her shoulder. He said to her "Unclench your mighty fists warrior goddess, your righteous vengence is fulfilled. Go now and be at peace." with that Ishtar finally calmed down and looked around at the calamity she had wrought. Ishtar began to cry, and her tears ffilled in the crater, creating Moonfall Gulf. Ashtar came to her and comforted her. Then the two of them departed.
Bahamut then collected Tharizdun and the gods finished their work and left for Mechanus where Primus would go on to pronounce the judgement of Tharizdun.
