Session Fourteen: It Wasn't Me!

General Summary

The session started with the party preparing to journey to the Halls of Heroes. Nyx went to town to pick up supplies and items for the party. Sneatcha, Cannella and Cora went to the old Gellen house to plant the remaining beans Sneatcha had. Friac and Valna decided to go into Saltmarsh to do some shopping.
  The first bean Sneatcha planted caused a gas bubble to form and burst. The air from the bubble was foul smelling and caused Sneatcha to not feel well. The second bean caused a well to appear. Sneatcha and Cora decided to investigate the well. They dropped the bucket down to the water below and pulled up pure clean water. They tried to discern if the water had any magical properties but discovered it was just pure water. Sneatcha took some of the water and put it in his waterskin. After a few moments, the well disappeared.
  Valna and Friac enter The Curio Shop and talk to the owner Misha. Valna asked Misha if she had any items which would protect her from the undead. Misha showed Valna a silver holy symbol which she told Valna will keep the undead away from her. Misha also showed Valna some oil which would allow a weapon to strike those creatures which are not transparent. Valna purchased the items and left the shop with Friac.
  While making their way back to camp, Friac and Valna passed a tavern called the Flounder Pounder. Friac was curious about what it may hold entered the tavern. Once in the tavern, they were greeted with a pungent odor of rotten fish and stale ale. Several of the patrons appeared to be in various states of drunkenness. Friac went up to the bar and asked the bartender, Zed if he knew of any gossip about Saltmarsh. Zed gave Friac the run around as Friac ordered a drink and the fish special. Valna tried to convince Friac to leave when one of the patrons stumbled up to the bar. The man bumped into Valna and apologized for his clumsiness. He offered to buy Valna and Friac a drink which Friac took him up on. The man commented on it was strange to see a goblin with a pretty lady and tried to make small talk with Valna. Valna gave the man the cold shoulder and he decided to return to his friends in the corner. Valna thought by leaving the tavern, Friac would leave with her. Valna exits the tavern and Zed has a conversation with Friac which ends in an interesting proposition.
  Friac leaves the Flounder Pounder and walks up to Valna when they hear several whooshing noises behind them. They turn to see the Flounder Pounder blow up with a huge explosion throwing debris everywhere. Friac quickly hides as the guards approach the scene. Valna tries to sneak off but is discovered by the city guards. They tell her to stop and asked what happened. Valna started to be evasive and the guards decided to bring her to the town council member who was the magistrate on duty for further questioning. They arrive at the town hall and Valna is escorted to see Lord Egan Lassiter who is the magistrate on duty. Valna was upset at seeing Egan and gets into a confrontation with Egan over the carnival. Egan proclaims his innocents and asked what her friend was doing at the Flounder Pounder as the tavern is known to those looking to put a hit out on someone. Valna claims she doesn’t know anything about the tavern and they went into the tavern to get something to eat. Egan allows Valna to leave on the condition of telling him if she hears anything different from her friend. Valna leaves and returns to the camp.
  Sneatcha, Cannella and Cora return to the camp to find Darwin had arrived with Lady Thalavar and Jorg. They move into the tent and wait for Nyx to arrive. Nyx and Valna return to the tent to see a human male awaiting her arrival. Valna inquires about the man's business. The man introduces himself as Bjorn and he was head of the crew which were hired for the ship. He address Valna as Captain and told her he will await her orders. Bjorn the leaves back to Saltmarsh. While at the tent Valna tells Nyx what happened in Saltmarsh. Valna then goes to meditate. Nyx with Cannella meet up with Cora and begin to interrogate Jorg. Outside the tent Sneatcha takes watch. In the tree line a Night Mask assassin attacks Sneatcha with a bow. Sneatcha cries out as he moves to engage the assassin. The assassin tries to move but is pommeled to death by Sneatcha. Cannella and Nyx step outside the tent to see Sneatcha hanging the corpse in the tree as a warning. Cannella and Nyx return back inside the tent and Nyx is able to obtain information from Jorg. Cora decided the best punishment for Jorg is to cut out his tongue and hands. They release Jorg after making sure he wouldn’t bleed to death from his wounds. Darwin departs with Lady Thalavar agreeing to return her to safety.
  Nyx travels back into Saltmarsh to confront Egan. Nyx is able to sneak into his office where he is startled by her appearance. Egan tells Nyx he had messed up and he was trying to fix it by putting a hit on the party. Before Nyx could gain who Egan was working with and feared, a shadow creature stepped out of the corner of the room and breaks Egan’s neck. The creature looks at Nyx before fading back into the shadow. Nyx grabs his ledgers in the room and makes it back to camp.
  Friac breaks into Egan’s house after seeing the city guard arrive at the house and fetch Egan’s butler. While searching the house a shadow demon appears and hurts Friac. Friac tries to escape the demon by jumping out of the window and flying away. The demon follows Friac out of the window and grabs him. The demon teleports Friac with it and brings Friac to a small cabin in the woods. The creature drops Friac in front of Karla. Karla tells Friac she is concern that he maybe interfering in her plans and warns Friac not to cross her. She heals Friac before the demon picks up Friac and drops him off near camp.
  Nyx returns to the camp and lets Valna know Egan was murdered for his involvement with the carnival. Friac enters the tent and is questioned about his where about. Friac claims he was going to the black market and did not want Valna with him. The party decides to get a nights rest before setting off to the Halls of Heroes.
  After a day journey, the party arrives in the abandon village of Grimhollow. On the other side of the village is the entrance to the graveyard known as the cemetery of Grimhallow. The party moves to the entrance where they encounter a priest of Kelemvor named Doombringer Grimhollow. Doombringer Grimhollow asked the party their business. Valna tells Doombringer Grimhollow they have permission to enter and she is here to seek a relic of her family. Doombringer Grimhollow allows the party to enter the graveyard by unlocking the gates. He tells the party to stay on the path and to head to the Halls of Heroes, asmall temple on the hill, as Doombringer Soulhearth was awaiting Valna’s arrival.
  The party makes their way up the path. As they make their way they hear a haunting melody. Friac is affected by the melody and feels hopeless as an unseen creature feeds off Friac’s despair. Sneatcha seeing Friac in distress picks him up and begins to move with him. Nyx tells Sneatcha he needs to remove Friac from the area of influence of the melody. They get Friac to safety before he succumbs to the dark melody.
  The party arrives at the temple and notices it has seen better days. Doombringer Soulhearth welcomes the party into the temple. Valna tells Doombringer Soulhearth she is here to reclaim Tranquility. Doombringer Soulearth tells her he has been awaiting her arrival. He tells the party the Halls of Heroes is a sacred place where champions to different deities are laid to rest in the crypts below. A curse was placed on the area which destroyed the special seals in the crypys. He tells the party there are Sacred Braziers of Balance in the crypt which can be lit with a special sun rod. He gives each member a sun rod. Doombringer Soulearth tells the party of seals in the crypt which were broken and if they return the seals he can restore them to help ward against the undead. The party agrees to bring him any seals they find. Doombringer Soulearth opens the entrance to the Halls of Heroes and the party descends down the stairs into the crypt. Doombringer Soulearth closes the crypt door behind them.
  The party explores the chambers of the crypt. They enter one chamber to see a Sacred Brazier of Balance in the center of the chamber. Inside the chamber is multiple sarcophagi open. Wandering the chamber were several undead in various states of death. The party enters the chamber as all the undead move with speed and attack as one on Valna. The party attacks the undead and notices they were healing the damage they were receiving. Sneatcha uses his sun rod and lights the brazier causing the undead to recoil. With the light from the brazier the party was able to defeat the undead as they were weakened by the light. The party searched the chamber looking for the last resting place of Aedwar. Having no luck, the party moved on.
  In the main corridor, the party encounters several wolf spiders as they attack the party from their hiding spot on the ceiling. One of the spiders shoots a web catching Cora. It pounces on Cora as it tries to feast on her. The party move in and kill the spiders. They free Cora from the web.
  The party move on and enter another chamber with more open sarcophagi. Friac sees a brazier in the chamber and attempts to light it but fails. As the party moves in, several undead attacks the party. Cora moves to the brazier and light it. The light effects the undead and the party easily destroys them.
  The session ends as the party searches the room and plots their next move in the crypt.

Notes

Key Findings:
  • The Flounder Pounder was a front for the assassin guild. The Flounder Pounder blew up for an unknown reason.
  • Jorg states the Night Mask were to pick up someone from the carnival. The next destination was to Neverwinter. Jorg stated that was where Frederick was heading before Darwin captured him.
  • There was something Frederick was looking for in Neverwinter. Jorg did not know what it was.
  • Egan put a hit on the group to tried to fix his mistake and being tied to the carnival. Egan was afraid of an unknown person and was killed before he said who it was.
  • The shadow weaves influence on the Halls of Heroes caused the dead to rise.
  • The Doombringers of Kelemvor are trying to stop the undead but are losing the battle against them as there are only two left.
  • The Crypt of Torm's Fallen Heroes (referenced as the Shadow Crypt) was under the small temple of Kelemvor and it was were the heroes of Torm were buried.
  • The light from the Sacred Braziers of Balance harm the undead.
