Town of Saltmarsh

Saltmarsh is on the verge of becoming a legitimate city.  Many travelers have decided to settle here because the town is located in a prime position.  With lesser regulations compared to Waterdeep, Saltmarsh's port has grown and infused new found wealth into Saltmarsh.

Demographics

Mixed: Human 81%, Halfing 5$, Half-elf 4%, Gnome 3%, Dwarf 2%, Half-orc 1%, Other 1%.

Government

Saltmarsh is run by a town council of six elected individuals.  The council meets in the town hall at the start of every season where they vote on issued and new laws and hear public grievances.  In order for a motion or issue to be ratified, at least five votes mush be cast in favor.
  The position of lord mayor is assigned by popular vote of the other members of the town council.  The position is for life or until the rest of the council votes unanimously to impeach.  Only the lord mayor can call emergency meeting of the council.  The lord mayor's vote counts as two when issues are on the floor during a council session.   The other five members of the council hold the position for life and are nonimated and elected by popular vote of the citizens of Saltmarsh.

Defences

Saltmarsh is surrounded by an extensive stone wall made of large blocks of limestone quarried from the cliffs south of the town.

Industry & Trade

The main source of Saltmarsh comes from its port which has a shipyard and several warehouses where goods are stored for export.  The port supports Saltmarsh's largest source of income of fishing.
