Session Twelve: The Old House on the Hill

General Summary

The session started with the group meeting back at the tents outside of Saltmarsh. The party talked with Mazel Analith about the unknown person whom his father knew. Mazel recounts a story his father, Saevel Analith, told him about the deeds his nephew, Chael Goldleaf, done to protect the realms. Chael was special because he was part of a group which was called the guardians. Chael helped saved an old tree from evil people which they were after. Chael was known to wield two blades (twin daggers). After saving the tree, the guardians went their separate ways but at their request their deeds were hidden from the world as they wanted to live out in peace. My father stated Chael helped him overcome a curse which plagued our family. The last Saevel spoke of Chael was he was living on an island called the Isle of the Trees off the coast of Westgate. Mazel tells the party he has not seen his father in many years because of the dangers from the family curse. He was placed in Lady Lorelei Thalavar’s care as she was a family friend. It was decided the children needed to be protected. Nyx teleported back to Waterdeep with the children to place them in a safe house.   While waiting for Nyx to return, Cora noticed a wolf pacing outside the tent. On the wolf it appeared to have a small bag attached to it. Cora cautiously approach the wolf and it sat down in front of her. She opened the bag and found a note with a druid vestment. The note was from Darwin stating he had tracked down Frederick and Jorg but Frederick got away. He has Jorg detained and he also was able to rescue Lady Thalavar. Cora responded back to Darwin asking for him to come with Jorg and Lady Thalavar to the tent they are at.
  Nyx returns from Waterdeep and Cora tells party about the note she had received from Darwin. The party decided they wanted to check out the old Gellen house which was just outside of Saltmarsh. The party arrives at the Gellen house to find the house in poor condition. The party decided to explore the area outside the house. Cora and Sneatcha decided to check out the old well. As they approached the well two snakes struck out at Sneatcha. Sneatcha reacted and killed one. As the other one tried to strike Sneatcha grabbed it. Trying to decide what to do with it, Cora used a spell to imbue her blade with the poison of the snake. After the spell was completed, Sneatcha threw the snake across the yard which it slithered away.
  Valna and Friac examined the remains of a garden and found sections of the garden were raised as some type of creature had burrowed underneath. Valna called over Cora to look at the ground where it was raised as Friac decided to eat some of the mushrooms which were growing in the garden. Cora figured out the burrow tracks were from weasels. Cora wildshapes into a weasel and crawls into the burrow to explore. Cora finds a family of weasels in the burrow which were not happy to see her. Cora was able to calm the weasels to finish exploring the burrow which she found nothing of interest. Cora returned out of the burrow. Valna placed Cora on her shoulder and they went over to where Nyx was.
  Nyx had examined the outside of the house and determined there was recent activity at the house as the grass behind the house had been disturbed. She decided the best entry of the house was through the back patio where the structure looked sound and had little activity near it. The party decided to enter the house and Nyx was able to get the door open. The party entered into a large living area. The party spread out and searched the area. Sneatcha found an old bag with four beans in it lying in a pile of garbage. When Sneatcha picked up the bag, throughout the house a voice was heard telling those whom entered the house was destined to die a horrible death. The voice shaken Friac as he became jumpy to every little noise and shadow. Nyx found a trap door in the floor and opened it. The party decided to go down the trap door to see where it led.
  In the basement as Nyx came down the stairs a human male was standing near a table looking to be cleaning some cups. He noticed Nyx coming down the stairs and tried to run. He was tackled by Nyx before he made it to a door across the room. Nyx was able to get the manacles on the man and began to question him with Valna threatening to have Cora as a weasel eats off his face. The man was reluctant to talk but told them the ship had arrived and it was awaiting the arrival of some type of special cargo. The man did not know what the cargo was but told where to find the entrance to the cove. Nyx agreed to release him if he swore never to return.
  Friac notice a door which had the word danger on it. Friac tried to open the door but could not. Friac then asked Sneatcha if he could open the door. Sneatcha threw a shoulder into the door but it did not budge. As Nyx was releasing the man, Sneatcha and Friac threw their shoulders together and forced open the door. Inside the darken room a shuffle was heard as a low rasping voice was heard. Several blood skeletons exited the room engaging the party in battle. As the party stepped up to fight the skeletons, a green mist appeared in the room sickening Friac and Cora. Valna grabbed the mace of disruption from Nyx and started to attack the skeletons. Sneatcha stepped forward to hit one of the skeletons when he noticed a bouncing rainbow. He and Friac turned to tried to catch the rainbow. Cora moved to the back of the room to get out of the green mist so she would no longer be sickened. After destroying three of the skeletons with the mace, Valna stepped into the room to find a rather large skeleton defending another skeleton in wizard robes. The large skeleton stepped forward as Valna hit it with the mace destroying it. Nyx and Valna attack the wizard skeleton which causes it to lose focus releasing Friac and Sneatcha from rainbow spell. The party turns their attacks on the skeleton destroying it.
  Valna with Sneatcha turned their attention to the other skeletons remains to make sure they were destroyed so they could not reanimate. Nyx discovers a secret door and enters the door into an alchemy lab. Friac searches the room where the skeletons were and found a smooth stone which he picks up. Cora jumps on one of the chests and squeaks for Valna and Sneatcha to come over to her. Nyx searches the lab and then returns to the other room to search it. Valna and Sneatcha were able to open the chests to find peoples clothing in them.
  The party regroups and pushes the secret door open to enter the caverns. As the party makes their way through a cavern a patch of green slime falls from the roof landing on Valna and Cora. The green slime begins to eats it way through Valna and Cora as the rest of the party reacts. The party is able to burn the green slime off Valna and Cora before it had a chance of eating its way through their armor and flesh. The party discovered a second patch of green slime and was able to destroy it before it fell on anyone.
  With the element of surprise gone, the party encountered a group of smugglers lying in wait for them. The party engages in a brief battle with the smugglers before the kill them all. The party exits the chamber into a large sea cave with a dock set up. Moor to the dock is a ship with the name Sea Ghost. The party pauses for a moment to determine what to do. Nyx slips on her ring of invisibility and leaves the party to scout out the ship. Impatient, Friac decided he wants to go and sneak about the ship. Friac carefully makes his way to the deck of the ship. Finding no one on the deck, Friac decided to go below deck. Friac makes his way below deck where he passes a parrot which squawked as he passed by. Undeterred, Friac enters the main cargo hold where he is confronted by several drow which appeared out of nowhere. Friac tries to put up a fight but he is held by a spell. The drow takes him to the rear of the ship and puts him in a cell. They strip him of all his gear before locking Friac in the cell. The captain releases the hold spell and asks Friac why he was there. Friac remained defiant which upsets the drow captain. No wanting to waste any other time with Friac the captain casted Feeblemind on Friac. Friac, with his intelligence low was confused as what was going on.
  Nyx returned to the party and found the best way on the ship is by an open porthole by the anchor chain. The party gets aboard the ship and begins to search the various rooms looking for Friac. The party enters a cabin crew room and was ready to enter the cargo hold when the session ended.

  • Mazel Analith has knowledge of an unknown guardian named Chael Goldleaf. Chael wielded duel blades (twin daggers). He was last reported to been living on an island called the Isle of the Trees off the coast near Westgate. This could be a location where book of Selu'taar maybe at.
  • The Analiths had a family curse which Chael helped to lift but the Analiths are being hunted because of the curse.
  • Cora's friend Darwin was able to capture Jorg and rescue Lady Lady Lorelei Thalavar.
