Farbrook
Demographics
Farbrook is a primarily Human settlement, as with many in Drinuvaria. That is not to say they there is no diversity, there are many species that travel through here on there way to places and have found the surrounding area so idyllic they settle down here in the end. There is also a large community of Firbolgs who originated from the Clinwin Wood and have settled here, tending to livestock and field alike. There is also a small contingent of Wood Elves who call the town home, helping to establish one of the best woodworking business's in the region.
Government
The town and it's surrounding farms are cared for by an elected town Mayor who is chosen every 5 years. They will care for the daily running and administration of the town and are also responsible for collecting taxes on behalf of the Governor of Farsos.
Defences
While the City is surrounded by a wall, this is a throwback to before the Annexation of the Mennear Fields. the wall has been poorly maintained and the town doesn't have a large enough compliment of guards to adequately defend it. It is highly unlikely that an area so far in land would be subject to an a sizable attack but should a defence need to be mounted, Farbrook can join forces with the surrounding towns and villages to hold Farbrook Keep.
Industry & Trade
Most of the economy of the town is supported through farming. The fields in the surrounding few miles of the town, as well as local villages are used for farming crops which help to sustain both Thallingen downstream and the mining towns upstream. Further afield the land is used to support livestock, cows for beef which sells well in Thallingen as well as preserved for the Navy. On these lands sheep are also kept in great numbers, the wool from which is used to feel the mills in the town. Since the material is accessed much easier some of the largest names in Drinuvarian fashion have taken offices within the mills and export their designs.
Thanks to the small but long standing Elvish community, the town is also proud of its carpentry. Here complex works are carried out such as detailed carvings for ship figureheads and adornments for important buildings.
Infrastructure
The town is connected to the Hasdurn Way via a hard wearing dirt road. The town is also connected to the surrounding area with hard pack dirt roads and the rest of the kingdom via the thunderous Votsoll River. The town also draws most of its potable water from the river and filters and cleans the water it puts back so as not to affect settlements further downstream.
Guilds and Factions
As with any sufficiently dense concentration of peoples, the Society for the Procurement of Preowned Property has a presence within the town, even having a hand in the running of The Prancing Dog. It goes without saying that due to the industries in Farbrook, the House Of Drinu has a thriving membership and ensures that their concerns and opinions are heard by the Mayor's office.
Occasionally groups from either the Bronze Star or the The Divine Path pass through the town to ensure that their respective Dogma's are being adhered to. There have been several occurrences in the town of magic users disappearing, "relocating" or not checking out of their lodgings. The town has also lost its resident druid, it's tinkers workshop and the wizard who lived outside the city limits.
History
Farbrook was originally one of the small villages in the region surrounding Farsos, one of the original states. After an increase in the ambition of the then fledgling Drinuvarian Kingdom, Farsos fortified many of its villages but to no avail.
Points of interest
Within the town can also be found the New Beginnings Orphanage. A charitable organisation which relocates troubled children from the surrounding region in the hopes to provide them shelter and the skills to find gainful employment. The Orphanage receives funding from Farsos, Thallingen and many wealthy individuals who support the hard work they do.
Also within the town is the Obsidian Ring, an arena for prized fighters to earn coin in bouts, as well as providing betting services for those wishing to wager coin on the outcome. It has also become local tradition to settle some disputes in the arena when discussions have failed, providing entertainment for others and additional betting opportunities.
Geography
Farbrook sits on the softly undulating terrain of the Mennear Fields, to the south of the expansive Clinwin Wood and on the banks of the Vostoll River. The is mostly flat but does have some gradual change in elevation over the course of several miles.
Natural Resources
The land around Farbrook is very fertile and has been easily irrigated using water from the Vostoll River. As such a wide variety of crops have been grown here for centuries, leading to higher yields and plentiful food.
