Session 01 - The Beginning

Mechanical Spider: *beeps menacingly*

Fritz: ...it's probably nothing.

Plot points/Scenes

First Meetings

• Fritz, Jalan, Drant, Varis, and Meghan meet up outside some old Dwemer stronghold
  • [Meghan is our first NPC, she was named by the DM flipping through his commencement program full of IOWEGIAN NAMES and picking one because “you guys complain I’m not creative with my names” (“if you had been creative with your names, Jeremy would never have been an issue”)]
  • Fritz and Jalan, and Meghan travelled here separately, hoping to collect some reward from Stonedeep, the nearby city, who relies on the generator within to supply them power, Drant had been squatting here until recent events and has no interest in monetary compensation, and Varis hates sentient machines so wanted to shut it all down
• There is a giant mechanical-looking door blocking the way, Fritz figures out the mechanism and Meghan opens the door bc everybody’s like “dude that’s totally trapped or something”
• Meghan opens the door and promptly gets snatched by some spider thing, is dragged kicking and screaming deeper into the facility
• After some debate, it is decided to go in
• The spider thing has dragged Meghan out of sight, the group starts through the facility, sees some sort of electric trap which seems to have easily cuttable power wires out of reach across the hallway
• Jalan casts Levitate on Fritz who fails to save, and tosses her against her will across the hallway to cut the wire
  • She spots two more spider things and one humanoid-turret thing who immediately start down the hallway towards them

First Combat

• Fritz cuts the wire and shuts the trap off, crossbows down the hallway
• Jalan stays towards the back of combat
• Varis gets up close and personal
• Drant gets up close and personal
• Humanoid machine attaches one of the spider things to its arm as a makeshift sentient shield
• Machine things say “fuel detected” and fire nets at Fritz, who gets restrained; they start dragging her down the hallway
• Another machine grapples Drant but he (as an already insectoid) Alters Self to look like one of them and it puts him down
• It becomes a theme that Fritz is completely inept at getting herself out of netting and just spends the next few turns just getting dragged around; the spider carrying her makes it to a metal door and starts typing in a passcode
• Drant and Varis fail to cut her out of the net and she gets dragged through some air-vent like thing like 6 feet off the ground, through the wall-tunnel and out into another hallway
• Fritz manages to notice and press a power-down button on the spider that’s carrying her, another humanoid machine starts approaching saying “fuel detected”
• Jalan clambers through the vent and assists Varis in climbing through as well
• One of the robots spews some ball bearings on the ground, making it difficult terrain underneath the window Jalan and Varis and now Drant are coming in
• The spider Fritz pressed the button on starts beeping
  • “...it’s probably nothing.”
  • It explodes
• Varis takes down the last remaining humanoid robot like a baus
  • Fritz scavenges some parts off it
• Another humanoid machine comes around the corner, says “Administrator detected. Please follow me.”
• Drant falls into a pit but one of the spiders carries him out so it’s fine
• After a bit of arguing we oblige because we don’t really have a choice
  • Jalan REALLY wants to get the fuck out but Fritz and Varis are like “nah we gotta finish this”
  • Also we’re beginning to realize that this generator the city runs on is running on like human souls or something and we sort of have a moral responsibility to fix it
  • We try (since we’re recognized as administrators) to open the system and cancel the orders to kill people, turns out we don’t know the password
  • Also we forgot about Meghan we should probably try to rescue her
