Tel Jumrah

Located a day's journey south of the trading post of Akbyset, Tel Jumrah is a large tumulus that was constructed by the ancient Ma'abari people more than 8,000 years ago.

Purpose / Function

Formerly a hilltop fortress, the lower levels were converted to a crypt sometime during the 9th Millennium AR to house the remains of Adom-Shai, the petty king of the Ma'abari people. According to legend, interred along with Adom-Shai are his son, Oshe, his retinue of warriors, and the orichalcum tip of his legendary spear, Neudjat, upon which both Oshe and Adom-Shai were slain.

Architecture

The underground chambers of the crypt were hewn from the sandstone of the large hill upon which the former fortress was built. The craftsmanship of the masonry suggests that the Ma'abari may have employed Kebian labor to construct the tomb.

Defenses

According to legend, the entrance to the crypt was warded with powerful protection magics. It is said that only those who can deeply sympathize with Adom-Shai's loss may enter the underground chambers. Likewise, the burial chambers are protected with traps to disuade any would be tomb-robbers (often euphemistically known as "adventurers").

History

Approximately a century ago, the Paladins of Aelos discovered that a secret society of necromancers based in Akbyset had breached the ward of the crypt and had performed occult rituals to desecrate it. Full of righteous fury, the Ouranic zealots assembled at the entrance to the burial mound to invoke the power of their fire god. They summoned a great conflagration to cleanse the crypt, trapping the cultists who were either immolated or suffocated as the fire sucked all the oxygen out of the chambers below.
