Lazark

Lazark is a water island found in the South Western reach of the Known Skies, and is the home of the Tortarian people. Plagued by constant storms and bitter skies, the entirety of island resides underwater, where the currents are calm and predictable in comparison to the roiling chaos of the surface.
Under the waves is a strange, but beautiful sight to behold. Unlike other water islands, where what few landmasses exist are small chunks of floating rocks, Lazak is actual a huge single chunk of rock surrounded by hundreds of feet of water. Petrified forests gently sway in the currents, fields of kelp have sprouted where once were gentle rolling hills, and beds of coral grow in huge crimson towers. Ruins of the old world dot the landscape, ancient edifices of stone and steel, silently and slowly eroding over the course of centuries.
Due to both the eternal storms that rock the islands surface and the lack of any surface to land upon, traveling to and from the island by Sky Ship is incredibly difficult (if not impossible without very specific equipment). The only time when it is possible to leave the island is when it briefly engages in a Conjunction with the island of Salt. This brief, but yearly, process is a fraught event, as the inhabitants of both islands do not get along. As a result, most of the Skies is unware of the existence of the Tortarian people, viewing the island as cursed.

History

Lazark was not always in its current state. Hundreds of years ago, it was a normal sky island that actually supported the development of several unique humanoids who lived in harmony. However, trouble erupted when a hostile tribe of Valeer Akoran attacked the island with the intent to conquer and enslave the inhabitants. In a mistake that proved disastrous, the invaders attempted to capture and dominate one of the island's Source Dragon's, specifically the one earth Attuned dragon. In the process, they inadvertently destroyed the Dragon's Crystal, destroying the harmony of the island. What followed was an apocalyptical series of flash floods that led to the islands current state. Only the aquatic Tortarians were able to survive, and sadly, each of the other unique races subsequently drowned.
To this day, the Tortarians are suspicious of outsiders, carrying with them the generational trauma of this island-shaking tragedy.
