The Nine Deities
"The governing pantheon of the Freelands, they know all and are in every aspect of everything"
Structure
The Nine are equal to one and other, but each of them have their own principalities and followers. They are all rivals and friends to a certain extent one could say.
Mythology & Lore
First among them, is Lady Bellona Albion of the Light. A woman of order and obedience, she who wields a warhammer of judgement and a shield of providence. With her hair like starlight and feathered wings to match, in with robes of white and armor of platinum. She is the goddess who purges and cleanses the dark, the sin, and the plagued. She knows not mercy however she is not cruel, for she too is bound by the law she decrees. She is the white star, the first sun, that shines upon the world and is the Plane of Paradiso; a plane of light with eternal servitude and rest amongst her celestials rivaled only by Lord Ddraig Goch.
Secondly, is Lady Trinity of the Green. Dressed in a viridian gown and with a tiara of leaves and flowers in her mahogany hair carrying a gnarled staff of wood to match. She being both one and three, she is of triple forms: Trinity Hestia, the youthful and chaste guardian of the lost, the innocent, of children, and plant-life. Then there be Trinity Cybele, the gentle mother of all and the source of life, love, marriage, birth, and family. Lastly there be Trinity Hecate, the aged keeper of knowledge, wisdom, healing, arcana, and ancient secrets. She is the world, our world, the Material Plane of the Freelands.
Thirdly, is Lord Ddraig Goch of the Flame. He is the father of Dragonkind and the bringer of fire. He appears to resemble a Dragonborn of many colors in chromatic and metallic hues with draconic wings, and wearing plate armor of the finest quality and a massive axe to match. He is man of ambition and pride, but not with morals. He adheres to no law nor creates them, but to be true to oneself and to not to willfully malicious unto others. He wages war not for himself, but for the glory and prosperity of all. He is the yellow star, the second sun, that shines upon us from afar and is the Plane of Muspilli; a Plane of fire and flame with eternal battle. The eternal rival and peer of Bellona Albion.
Fourthly, is Lord Vosegus Donon of the Beasts. An abominable conglomerate and source of all animals occupying a single form: the head of a wolf, with the mane of a lion, with ears of a rodent, and with bovine horns. He has a reptilian scaled torso and arms with clawed hands. Upon his back there be large eagle-like wings, and his lower half and legs like that of a horse with a serpentine tail. Strangest of all are his honey gold eyes that alternate from a warm gentleness to a harsh hunger in an instant. He obeys and enforces but one law, and that is the law of the jungle. Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten, rule or be ruled. He is the green moon, the first moon, that waxes and wanes at night and is the Plane of Erin; an eternal forest where all Beasts, Beastfolk, and the most worthy hunters come to hunt and rest.
Fifthly, there is The Crocea Mors of the Dead. They of indeterminate gender and origin. They of pale aged gold and coal black robes, with a pair of gold plated sickles in each hand. They are faceless and voiceless, they are the reaper of the dead, the shepard of souls, and keeper of graves. To them death is sacred and necromancy or the undead are abominations, the dead should remain dead. They are not a bringer of death, they simply exist to aid and bring others to the other side. They care not for justice, vengeance, or murder; the means of ones death do not matter to them. So long as the laws of life and death are not obstructed, his ire is avoidable. He wanders between Planes and has no Plane of his own, he guides souls to their prospective afterlife's and Planes.
Sixthly, there is Lady Curruid Coinchenn of the Deep. She is an enormous sea creature, though her upper torso resembles that of a woman. If one were to look closer, her skin is like that of a frog with patches of fish scales with fins on her arms and webbed fingers; her hair is perpetually wet with eyes and teeth of shark and crown of coral. Her lower half is a coiling mass of tentacles with one serving as a prominent serpentine tail with a fin like sail. The primary colors of this monstrous being oceanic blue, seaweed green, and black as the void. She is the goddess of the sea and storms, she commands the tides and the four winds of the Freelands. Her mood, like the weather, is ever shifting she is as quick to love as she is too destroy. She is the blue moon, the second moon, that follows her first love Vosegus Donon as she is also the mother of Beasts. Her moon is the Plane of Okeanos; a Plane of water and wind where the most stalwart sailors, pirates, and champions of the sea wander and seek adventure for eternity.
Seventhly, there is Lady Python Delphi of the Night. She is being of dreams, of formless night terrors; she may take the form of a serpent, spider, raven, or a writhing mass in the darkness. She is the goddess of the night, fear, dreams, prophecy, blood magic, necromancy, and other forbidden arcana. She is the one those pray to who have no hope or their prayers go unanswered by others; by the desperate, the scorned, the betrayed, and the forgotten. To those truly devoted to her, she answers their with unimaginable power with a price. To oath breakers and liars, whether they betray her or those who pray to her, she cruel and relentless in vengeance. She is the red moon, the third moon that hides beyond the first and second. It is the Plane of Hellas, a haven for those who shun and have been shunned by the outside world. It is both a hostel and prison for its denizens, both living and dead.
Eighthly, there is Lord Crom Cruach of the Sin. He is the proprietor and source of all sin, he whispered ears into the first beings on the Material Plane. A tall black horned being with red skin and cloven hooves, he is the Fiend of Fiends adorned with bejeweled armor, finery, and accessories; wielding a Greatsword of obsidian and ebony. He is the father of lies, adulterous deeds, manipulation, politics, subjugation, greed, jealousy, envy, and oath breaking. As the epitome of both brutality and cunning, he crafted two races of Fiends to serve his will: Devils inherited his cunning wit and his silver tongue; and Demons that inherited his wanton brutality and desire to subjugate. His final addition to the Material Plane, was the implantation of Tieflings to be born from unsuspecting Mortals as a reminder of his presence and that sin can spawn from anywhere. His Plane is Inferno, the third and red star, the second furthest star from the Freelands and always closely monitored by both Lady Bellona Albion and Lord Ddraig Goch. This Plane is the cursed land where the greatest of sinners are cast, to receive their just desserts, for Lord Crom Cruach enjoys torturing his followers as much as enjoys creating them.
Ninthly, there is Lord Koalemos Vejovis of the Plague. He is the maniacal master of curses, plagues, diseases, rot, and madness. His face is a mockery of Plague Doctor's, its leathery beak can open let out a discordic howl of laughter with a melancholic voice that penetrates and destroys the minds of those who hear it. Those who pray to him do not do so for their own benefit, but do so to prevent his wrath and destruction. He neither wants, needs, nor benefits from anything; his whole purpose is to corrupt and taint the world. For it is as easy breathing for him to wander and destroy, for it is his sole purpose. His Plane is Pandemonium, a black star devoid of light, an astral body furthest from the others. Only the beings that even Lord Crom Cruach and all Inferno cannot swallow, are rejected and sent to this Plane. All the other Gods and Goddesses, both good and evil, watch him intently and cautiously.
Together... they are the Nine Deities of the Freelands.
Divine Origins
Before the Freelands there was Light, before there was Light there was Darkness, and before there was Darkness there was The Nine Deities. They are a collection, a party if you will, of deities weary of the other worlds and planes who came together to create a new and better one.
Cosmological Views
The Nine came together to create a newer and better world for themselves and their chosen, it is unclear if they succeeded looking at the state of the world torn by war and hate.
