M3E4&5 - Encounter with N'Jal

Journey to Kerhofn Hall

If the party wins their battle in the Ye Old Fight Pit they are lead to the gates by Lanista Verus.   Diplomatic Description
Kerhofn Hall is a motte and bailey castle. The party is lead up a steep incline where as the approach the outter gates. The several guards in black armor and milling about. They are clearly on guard duty, but they don't appear to on high alert.   A hard metal portcullus is raised flanked by heavy wooden doors that swing open. You are lead up the stone steps into a snowy court yard. The court yard consists of several more soldiers training battle formation. Unlike the solders outside the soldiers training do not wear uniforms but have red bandana tied to their right arm. The drill sergeant however are wearing the blank metal armor of the front guards.   Before you in a slight rise there is a massive great hall overly decorated and lavish. Study stone steps lead to the enterance which is surrounded by more guards, local dignitaries, and rich powerful from Kerhofn Hall. The enterance to the hall is adorned with golden trim along the doors.   Inside the great hall a great feast has been laid out which is a stark juxtaposition to the hungry and want that exists outside these halls in the city. The finest foods have been prepared and wait for a great feast infront of the fire pits that warm the entire hall.   All surround the walls are covered with treasures which have been horded over many years. There is no common style or even appear to be crafted from a common culture.   The room is filled with guests. Mostly the rich and powerful but some officers in The Black Crows are in attendence. Despite the finery there is a bit of a dower mood in the room as if these type of occassions are held often. Looking at the guests you don't see anyone who truly appears to want to be here. It comes to mind that this is how loyality is bought. A warm hearth during winter, great feasting, violent sport for entertainment, and treasures of all type. But also.... the threat of punishment if one does not act their part. It's as if these people believe they are replacable.   In the front of the hall sites N'jal Odger on his high seat waiting. At the head table there is empty seating presumably for the victors of the Ye Old Fight Pit
  Stealth Description - Outside
You slowly lift the sewer grate to enter the inner quarter of the Kerhofn Hall. It's a dark cold night, and the chill air cuts through you. In the distance you hear the sound of soldiers drilling late into the night by torch light. In the court yard you can see guards patroling, and dogs barking.   The hall itself is glowing by dim light candle light. All is quiet.
  Stealth Description - Inside
The hall is dimly light and quite. You can see N'jal Odger still sitting on his high seat broading. There are a few guards scattered about and a few nobles who have overstayed their welcome. You can also see a few dogs laying close to the firepits for warmth.   Rich surround the hall and N'jal Odger. You see all manner of riches throughout the hall ranging from paintings, rugs, tapestries, gold, fine furnishing, weapons, spices, potions, and all manner of supplies and trade goods. They would be easy pickings if not for the guards.

Area Details

  Skill Checks (DC 14)
  • A close investigation of the gates will reveal that they are old and not properly built. A the gate and portcullis could be knocked off it's hinges with the right tools and effort
  • A insight check of the red guards show alot of resentment in their eyes towards the officers in black. Even though the drill sergants are giving instructions there is no indication they are better soldiers than the red armed men and womenbeing trained.
  • Studying the treasures you notice that they are also surrounded by weapons and other war trophies you would assume they were taken by force probably through unsanctioned raiding.
  N'jal Odger's Motiviations
  • N'jal Odger is secretly a member of the Cult of Howling Hatred specifically the Bowels. He will not reveal this out right, but if he is challenged will become angry. A DC 14 Persausion or Intimidation will force him to come clean.
  • N'jal Odger is planning to attack Raven's Ford. His plan is to lead his longships south/east while a flanking army will attack by the land in the west
  • N'jal Odger did hire the assassin's earler in the plot if players present the letter as proof they will have advantage on persausion and intimidation checks
  • N'jal Odger will deliberately antagonize the part and will cast them out of his sight if he's sufficently insulted.
  • He has been raiding the lasts on the cost near the Brunnhorn Mountains forcing the people into his service for the upcomnig war.
  • N'jal Odger is deep within the ranks of the Cult of Howling Hatred but he is not the leader. He wants to increase his position in the group. He knows of the Draugr by taking heavy casualities in the war. His goal is to rid himself of useless people that he can raise as undead.
  • N'jal Odger is studying ways to force a person to rise as a Draugr even if they are a good person and he is researching ways to force the Draugr to obey him. He does not wish to be a Draugr himself.
