Accatren (ACK-uh-TREN)

Accatren is the capital city of Seyis-Gol and its largest permanent settlement, located in the north-northwestern corner of the country between the border with Balaqalneyis and the Raarq River. Owing to the country's neutrality in the War of the Six and its general preference for isolation, its population remained largely unscathed from either conflict or plague -- pre-war (c. 985AC) its population was around 100,000, and this in fact increased to around 102,000 by 1000AC.   The settlement has long been a social nexus for the country as a spiritual site for the ancient practices of the Cradle of Mists, whose mistspeakers first used it as a 'crossing place'. According to the histories, this use was disrupted by the arrival of eova; some records, however, list eova as being among the mistspeakers. However, what is certain is that the rich mining nodes of the area and early river-based trade contributed to its growing population, and as the Nauhnas' ancestral seat it took on greater civil significance. Although there is no official date of its becoming the country's capital, 465AC is the date officially used -- aligning with the first recorded year of a Nauhnas Daech.   Although the country generally retains clan elements, Accatren is somewhat more modern in its openness to outsiders, external ideas, and trade. The Nauhnas have permanent land in the city and when they are not present, their retainers -- the Knights of Nauhnas -- are responsible for maintaining public order and enforcing the constitution.
