Galesten

The coastal trade city of Galesten, home to famed shipyards.

Demographics

Predominantly Banteavan, with many Dunefalli and Norvalled visitors passing through.

Government

The shipyards and port facilities are the main draw of Galeste, and so the laws here favour protections for visitors, few laws on taxation to encourage trade, and a relaxed approach to religious scrutiny from the Church of the Six Saints. There are designated quarters in the city for visiting foreigners where they can practice their faith without risk of persecution. The Baron of Galeste takes great pains to ensure these districts and their protections are respected by the Church (though there are rumours the Church helps itself to the city coffers in return.)

Defences

Galesten is protected by its city militia, which also fields a small navy to deter piracy within sight of their shores. A low city wall protects the hub of trade, though some itinerant labourers have set up camps outside the walls while working seasonally on new ships in the harbour when times are lean or demand for proper rooms spikes the nightly rate on a flophouse cot.

Industry & Trade

The shipyards and docks are the lifeblood of Galesten, and many of the industries work to support them. Carpenters saw the felled timber and treat it until it's ready for use fashioning the great ships of the Banteavan fleet. Whole guilds of craftsmen jockey for the rights to build the next ship commissioned by the nobles. Translators flit about the docks, offering their services to visiting foreigners.

Infrastructure

A grand system of docks and shipyards adorn the coastal city of Galeste, supported by dozens of warehouses, banks, inns and markets.
