Session 1 - 1st Time Across the Sea?
General Summary
Are YOU Crossing the Sea?
The sandstone walls of Port Nexus tower over the small tent town that has built up around it, catering to the influx of individuals who are departing for Legacy. Yenush arrives perfectly on time via arcane skiff. Having been sunbathing in route (it's too cold up north now, you know?), he folds up his chair and hops off. Before he can get far, he sees a familiar face emerging from one the tents nearby: Arkyn. Having arrived earlier, Arkyn describes his experience with sand seals to which Yenush is confused. Seals? But there's no water? There's magic in the world my friend. As a crowd of people begins to move towards the opening gates of Port Nexus, Arkyn spots a familiar face in the crowd. Cadence joins the trio with Arkyn introducing her to Yenush. Wow, with Yenush's fiddle, Arkyn's lute, and Cadence's flute... they should form a band!
Passing through the large front doors of Port Nexus, the trio finds... an art gallery? Various paintings and pottery are arranged throughout the space, with a sculptor in the middle of working a piece. And nearby, another familiar face to Arkyn! Aiaoue thought she'd see Arkyn again after they'd crossed the sea, but what a pleasant surprise! Aiaoue also recognizes Cadence, having stayed with the caravan once in the past. Yenush realizes he is going to struggle saying Aiaoue's name (Aye-What-Oh?). Now as a group of four, they find themselves in the shadow of someone tall... very tall. Yenush introduces Teagan to the rest of the forming band and, when asked about instruments, Teagan hesitantly slays he... slaps? Percussion found! As the people gathered begin to form a queue, Teagan recognizes a familiar face. Milo and Teagan talk about how thing's have been. Milo is out on his first assignment since the birth of his son Marcus. There's a moment of silence before everyone realizes that's something to congratulate someone for.
At the front of the queue, the group's conversation is interupted by Admiral Hegazi. Behind schedule, the Admiral has chosen to step in with administrative duties. He offers some information on Legacy. As citizens, you will be required to pull your weight... and be at the ready to handle potentially dangerous tasks should they arise. Yenush lingers behind and inquires after a Yuan-Ti named Yelkin. Hegazi, if he saw him, does not recognize the name. He is not present for every scheduled crossing. Arkyn, in passing, mentions that the Port is quite nice! Hegazi seems to frown at that.
Outside once more, but still inside the walls of Port Nexus, the group ducks over to an artistic monument suspended over the shipyard chasm. It contains 13 pillars, each placed equidistantly and composed of different materials. The monument seems to honor those who fought in the Battle of the Barrier.
Three battleships rest in the shipyard below. The Iron Queen is composed of patchwork metal that has clearly been overhauled many times. Multiple ugly metal boxes are positioned around the railings of her top deck. Ascending the boarding ramp, there was a... construct waiting. A construct with a chest piece covered in smiley face graffiti. Nearby, was a pristinely dressed warforged. Rune will be your captain today! Don't you worry, he's just as good as the real captain at piloting the Iron Queen! Where's the real captain? Ah, well he will be doing something stupidly reckless today. You are in great hands, though, I assure you!
As the Iron Queen prepares for departure, Milo takes a tour of the boat. There's an odd metal device hanging off the Iron Queen's port side. And then something tried to steal his essence when he was near the bow. Cycling back around to that particular experience, Milo overheard a whispered conversation between a woman in a wheelchair and a lizardfolk. Cadence found a suitable place to pray, but was disturbed by someone else joining her. Quill seemed excited to see someone else from Caliban and lamented how he will miss the tea where they're going. Yenush and Arkyn go in search of a sunbathing place and find the IDEAL spot occupied by some (gender-uncertain) person with three birds hanging out. Bird person DOES mind if you stay in this spot, but Yenush ignores that statement and pulls out his chair. Bird person then notes that Arkyn is from Zver'Behepka. You can tell me I'm right... or tell me I'm right. Teagan notices Aiaoue pacing nervously and offers up some corny, killer jokes as a means of distraction. They both join a human woman dressed far too nicely in the lounge. Maricia inquires after Aiaoue's tokens and Aiaoue tells the story of a hunter who struggled his prey until he sought Elis' aid. Marcia was a bit unwilling to give up information, but did acquiesce after a story (and another joke). She is from Ragna, Red River to be specific.
The Iron Queen, with all her passengers on board, leaves Port Nexus, sailing towards the Barrier break... and the miasma beyond.
Meanwhile, Milo talks to some very frightened looking deck hands. No, this is not a normal part of the routine. It's part of one of the boss' experiment. Milo turns his attention towards the argument then. Yenush, Arkyn, and Cadence converge on the argument from port. There are TWO of the constructs! The second one features graffit of a mermaid... with a pronounced butt. Rune is in the middle of a conversation with a dwarven man. Rune's voice is easy to hear as he seems to be trying to convince the dwarven man to stay aboard the Iron Queen and let Rune go instead. The trio however... suddenly can't pay attention (the trio of natural 1's). When the trio intervenes in the argument, the dwarven man takes the opportunity to enter the metal backpack with one of the constructs and seal the door.
As the Iron Queen dropss off the backpack into the water and leaves it to Omen, Rune arrives on deck to explain that his boss, Ironborn, is conducting an experiment. Omen may not be the ideal choice to take the Iron Delver, but Omen is unfortunately the only choice. When asked WHY Ironborn would need to go to the depths, Rune paused. If you are so curious, I'd advise you speak to Prof. Marcella Dunebrook and Dr. Sol Khalil at the Academic Center. It is there pet project after all.
Disbanding once more, Arkyn ends up on the bow and has the bravery (or stupidity) to approach the two individuals. Initially stopped by Qik'Luk (the lizardfolk), the woman invites Arkyn to chat. Valora is a member of the Church of The Void and she bears heavy scarring from her Void Shard. She explained that should the MWDs aboard fail... she will ensure that everyone aboard the Iron Queen stays safe and alive. Arkyn spoke about his own faith and how he never grasped the nature part of Oshozi, Valora mentioned that the most "nature" she has seen is from abord the Iron Queen. There is not much of it at Legacy. Arkyn offers to give her a mushroom next time.
Regrouping in the passenger lounge, Milo and Teagan – despite having met before – feel a wave of respect, sympathy, and kinship pass over them as they make eye contact. It fades after a few moments. Milo then is introduced to Marcia and as he makes eye contact with her, his heart rate quickens and he feels panic rising... before it fades. Did everyone else experience that kinship? No, just us? Odd. When asked, Marcia admits that she certain experienced something. Are there others on board that experienced this?
The group finds Quill bent slightly over the edge of the ship staring out at the water with an odd expression. When Quill makes eye contact with Cadence, pure anger bubbles up within Cadence, but if fades to sorrow before disappearing. Meanwhile, Quill's face seems to morph to one of guilt, shame, and regret... before he settles on confusion. Cadence mentions the emotional surge and Quill promises to not give a mocking interpretation of Caliban again. When asked about visions, Quill says he something a bit "sparky-sparky boom boom", but doesn't elaborate. Quill mentioned to Aiaoue that he's fond of the sea, hence why he was here looking overboard.
Bird person is found up on the same perch as before. When Arkyn makes eye contact, he feels a wave of annoyance build and swell before it fades. Bird person gets a shit eating grin on their face before they shake it off. Although they don't say much about what they saw, they do admit to seeing something. Eventually, Arkyn manages to get a name: Sayah of Arnyek'Jaro.
The grouop goes to talk to Valora who gives the same explanation about her role aboard the Iron Queen to everyone. She is a Void Bearer and Qik'Luk is her Void Heir. To use the powers of the Void, there is a cost. Despite potentially being near death, Valora seems... incredibly positive. She talks fondly about her impending doom and about the romantic notions of being "returned to the cosmic dust from which we are all made". She invited everyone to seek the Church, although the Void Maiden is currently absent from Legacy, Void Bearer Diamont leads the Church in her stead. If they wish to know more of The Void (or to seek divine shelter from the pantheon or from blood), the Church's doors are open!
Teagan gets into a 1-v-1 spat with one of the creatures, shoving it off the edge and them finally killing it once it climbed back aboard. Aiaoue charged across the deck to interupt two creatures in the process of destroying a device, entangling one of them to keep it out of range. Yenush set a record for the number of different weapons used in a single combat. Unfortunately, Milo's dissonant whispers don't seem to be as dissonant as they usually are and Toll the Dead seems to not be working as well on creatures that might be... dead but not dead? Arkyn sends feathers flying around the battlefield to stab whatever he can. Consumed by miasma, Teagan gets confused and attacks Cadence, apologizing profusely once he comes to his senses. Aiaoue gives a look to Yenush before body slamming a creature off the edge. Yenush manages to snag the rope and secure it, stopping Aiaoue inches from the water as her target vanishes beneath the rolling waves.
As the combat settles, Rune arrives on deck with a construct covered partially in gore. Rune orders the construct to throw the bodies overboard - this happens on rare occasions and they've learned that they... get back up again after a bit, spurred on by the miasma.
Shortly after, the Iron Queen pulls free of the miasma, revealing a small town surrounded by a dome of miasma, kept at bay by a complex array of MWDs. As the Iron Queen docks, a massive creature lumbers down the pier with a lizardfolk hanging on its side and a dog playfully running through its legs. The dog... that bark. The doberman seems familiar to Yenush.
Welcome to Legacy!

Where'd the Sun Go?
Deckhands start to launch cannisters into the sky, creating a thick gray cover. As darkness settles over the Iron Queen, a massive shadow approaches from Starboard while and argument rings out from Port. Aiaoue ties a rope around her waist and asks Teagan to ensure she doesn't go into the water (you look like you have muscle). Teagan agrees. Looking over the edge, the massive shadow continues to grow until little biolumniscent specks break through the darkness. Aiaoue offers her fish snacks, calling out "hello?". After a moment, a massive head with a few too many eyes emerges from the water. The creature lightly mocks Aiaoue's offering and seems to dislike landwalkers. As it goes to leave, Aiaoue begins to sing (with accompaniment from Teagan's percussion slapping). Omen, the massive leviathan, returns. Which of my people did you slay to steal such a gift? Aiaoue responded that she did not steal such a gift. Omen paused, but ultimately slipped beneath the waves. Teagan - who experienced a wave of wanting to go swimming followed by fear - is now very confused as to what is going on.Meanwhile, Milo talks to some very frightened looking deck hands. The Miasma (or, Where'd the Sun Go, Pt. II)
Passing through the Barrier break, the Iron Queen releases a hiss as she picks up incredibly speed. The MWDs come to life, releasing an ethereal hum as a protective barrier forms. The Iron Queen slams into the maisma. The hum of the MWDs is accompanied by the hiss and spitting of the miasma as it continuously pokes and pries at the defenses... waiting for its chance to get in. Arkyn, then Aiaoue, then Cadence, Milo, Teagan, Yenush... all suddenly freeze as they are suddenly consumed by an sensations that drown out everything else. When they snap to, everything is normal. That was... weird. A lot of weird things happening.Regrouping in the passenger lounge, Milo and Teagan – despite having met before – feel a wave of respect, sympathy, and kinship pass over them as they make eye contact. Protect the MWDS! Or Valora will!
A relatively peaceful journey is disrupted by the sounds of something striking and climbing the hull. Aiaoue ties her rope around herself as the group charges onto the deck... so find decayed humanoids hauling themselfs on board. Despite their state of decay, their beast-like features are still noticeable and miasma forms shackles around them, the chains drifting ominously as they move... to destroy the MWDs. That's a problem!Teagan gets into a 1-v-1 spat with one of the creatures, shoving it off the edge and them finally killing it once it climbed back aboard. The Miasma's Gift to You
Arkyn – Your ears begin to ring, drowning out the ethereal hum of the MWDs and the hiss of the miasma. Spots dart across your vision until everything is consumed by brilliant silver light. A sharp sensation digs into you, prying free your worry, your confidence, your sorrow, your anger... hollow. You feel hollow. A husk. Amidst the blinding silver light, a darkened outline of a figure, unmoving. Your eyes threaten to close.
Aiaoue – The sensation of pins and needles rolling over your flesh intensifies... and then fades. The ethereal hum of the MWDs and the hiss of the miasma overwhelms your senses... and then is drowned out by the enchanting lilt of a familiar voice. A distant echo... a feminine singing voice. Your heart beats. Your heart aches. A pressure builds. A weight settles upon you... something feels as if it will break.
Cadence – The ethereal hum of the MWDs and the hiss of the miasma are drowned out by an all-consuming darkness. You are plunged into a pit of nothingness. The darkest of night devoid of sound, smell, touch... something cracks... your flesh, the ground. You aren't certain. Tendrils wrap around your limbs. Roots? Vines? You cannot resist as they move you. It cannot be avoided, after all. And the shadows spread.
Milo – The ethereal hum of the MWDs and the hiss of the maisma is suddenly unsettling. Your breathing quickens. You can't breathe. You can't move. Your joints begin to lock. The deck of the Iron Queen threatens to consume you. All sound fades as time begins to slow. And then hooves beating against the deck. A charge. It builds and crescendos until you see it... in your periphery once more.
Teagan – The miasma around you shifts... from orange to an unsettline red. The ethereal hum of the MWDs and the hiss of the miasma fade. You can feel fury, anger, rage... but it is not your own. It surrounds you. There are eyes on you and yet there is nothing in the red haze. And then hands... one on each shoulder. Their faces are there, but their eyes glow red.
Yenush – The ethereal hum of the MWDs is not unfamiliar... but the hiss of the miasma is. But then the hiss shifts to a low growl. The hairs on the back of your neck rise. You are being watched, stalked... hunted. From the left,... no, behind... no ahead. Unpredictable. And then your metal arm jerks, twists, and contorts, yaning you to the ground as it threatens to fall off... You feel small.
