Through the Magic Portal: RPG Session 22

General Summary

"That's a 3 again. C'mon!" "What's that meme with the bird?" "Lemme sma- Wait!"   ~It was ghasts. It was definitely not that kind of smash.

Dramatis Personae

Heroes of the Story:

  • Gúrda Thérun, a Frost Dwarf druid from the wild North;
  • Geort Adanar, a human paladin and a rough and tumble sort;
  • Melé Alkabahar, a human avenger, seeking glory in battle against evil; and
  • Daz Dromégar, a human bard, fresh off the defeat of local bandits.
  • In Eleikar Town:

    Pars Balgûresh, a local ranger looking for help;   Artus Viserón and Maté Nérasi, local members of the College of Mages;   Jing of the Caravans, a local barterer specializing in knick-knacks and magical trinkets; and   Verén and an unnamed cook, the only remaining members of Jonitan Kilas's household.

    What Happened

    The adventurers stepped out of the magical portal that had whisked them to Eleikar Town from Losgate, running into Artus and Maté. They were greeted, informed that nothing unusual had been reported yet from the Frostward and asked to leave, as their usage of the teleportation circle was temporary.   They went out into the streets of Eleikar Town, searching for anyone who would know where to look for Lord Kilas's manor. They found their way to the central plaza of the town to find Pars (and his bear Fichâ) haggling with Jing over a small raven statuette. Pars was revealed to be a local hunter that would accompany them to Kilas's manor, as he alone seemed to know the way.   Arriving at the manor, Gúrda turned into a bear and wandered with Fichâ through the service entrance to look for clues while the rest of the group distracted Verén, the aged butler of Lord Kilas. Jonitan had apparently been "away on a hunting trip" for a couple of weeks and had not yet returned, taking many of his staff with him, leaving only Verén and a young cook, who was spooked to find two bears in the manor's pantry.   The rest of the group went to Kilas's study, finding a locked chest. When Daz, not realizing the trapped nature of the chest, accidentally mortally wounded Verén, he quickly healed him, saving his life and causing him to question his master's motives. Inside the chest were papers detailing a series of consultations with a local College mage named Lakénir Vargas and a significant interest in the Old Ways, an ancient religion predating the Empire.   Narrowly avoiding the party and the confused cook, the two bears broke into Kilas's workshop, finding two trapped statues and a collection of maps that seemed to cryptically indicate Kilas's plans. After that, the rest of the party "confiscated" much of Kilas's remaining wealth and found a poorly-hidden staircase to the basement.   The basement turned out to be the lair of three evil ghasts, undead cretures with the ability to cause paralysis. The party quickly sprung into action, with Pars showing his mastery of his bow and a telepathic connection with his bear. The party was successful in killing the undead, and left the manor in search of more information about Lakénir...
