Cianán Líathdhuine
Cianán Líathdhuine is the current Ard-Rí of Oileán Fiáin, and has served as such for the last twenty years. He is also something of legend on the island, and his life before being elected to his current position is interesting and impressive.
As a young man, Cianán actually left the island to see the world. He served for ten years as a soldier with the Eiðbundinn, travelling all over the Great Ring and having countless adventures. He travelled into The Middlesea on several occasions, and visited the City of Brass in the Al-Kubra. When he longed for home, he returned to Oileán Fiáin and his home kingdom of Fennell. He occupied himself slaying Fir Bolg monsters that raided the kingdom out of The Dream, and was named Ard-Fiagaí by the Rí of Fennell, a hero of the realm.
At the age of 37, he lost half his right foot to a barghest, and retired from the monster slaying business. Instead of fading into obscurity, Cianán found a new career as a sculptor. His subjects were drawn from his adventurous life, and caught the attention of the Queen of the Night Court. She named him the 'Lord of Strange Beauty', and invited him to sculpt her and other members of the Unseelie horde, and he spent fifteen years as a member of her court. When the old Ard-Rí began to show failing health, Cianán undertook a journey across the island, meeting with the Rís of each kingdom and the monarchs of each of the courts. He did not actively campaign for the position, so much as he made sure that they all knew he was there and willing to undertake it. This strategy worked, and he was named Ard-Rí of Oileán Fiáin at the age of 53.
He is a big man, with a beard that was once bright red and has now faded to be nearly white. He is completely bald, but his green eyes are clear and sharp, and he has all his own teeth. He doesn't carry the same bulk as he had in his youth, but he is still strong. He walks with a cane due to the injury to his foot, but shows no debilitating effects of age. He is known for his dry humor, and has the knack of being liked by everyone who knows him, even when they suspect they shouldn't like him at all.
