Eotland (ˈe͜o.tlənd)

Eotland is a collection of low-lying islands in the Volksland island group. The largest island is also called Eotlond, and it is where the majority of the Eot people reside. The other smaller islands are mostly uninhabited and are used as grazing land for the Eot's livestock.

Eotland is best known for the Eotensteorra horse breed, and merchants from all over the region come to the island group to purchase these extraordinary steeds. Eotland is dotted with small villages and hamlets, each with its own communal meeting hall or "Þing". The various Eot tribes (or cynns) cooperate with each other, but each retains its own soveriegnity. The largest settlement on Eotland is Roseham, the seat of the Rose Cynn, the wealthiest of the Eot cynns.

Notable Spirits

One of the notable features of Eotland are the Liedersteine, or Song Stones. These are large boulders that emit a strange, musical sound when struck in a certain way. Legend has it that the Liedersteine are the bodies of strange gods, and their music holds magical powers, some of which can be dangerous. The Eot strictly control who can approach the stones for their own safety and only allow a few of their own strike them to evoke their magic.

Geography

The islands of Eotland are mostly flat and made up of sandy beaches, dunes, and grassy plains. The archipelago is roughly circular in shape, with the largest island, Eotlond, situated at the center. The other smaller islands are mostly uninhabited and are used for grazing land for the Eot's livestock.

Eotland is prone to flooding due to its low-lying geography and proximity to the ocean. During periods of heavy rainfall or when powerful storms lash the region, the combination of high water levels and limited land elevation can result in significant flooding in certain areas of Eotland.

The Eot people have adapted to this risk by constructing raised platforms and buildings on stilts in flood-prone areas. These structures allow them to mitigate the impact of flooding and protect their homes and livelihoods. During heavy rains, they will herd their livestock into large raised barns, especially the valuable horses they breed.
