Nagiâni (na.ɡiˈaː.ni)

Nagiâni is the second largest island in the Telmun Islands, and the center of a cluster of islands that make up the southern tip of the archipelago. These islands have always been culturally distinct from the northern islands, and are known for the many artifacts left behind by the Empire of Muria.

Nagiâni has long been the domain of the Ṣabutu tribe of the Telmuns. They are known for their martial prowess, and it was in the city of Ṣabu that the Malika of Saba recruited her first soldiers. Many of the families on Nagiâni have relatives on Saba, where the Ṣabutu are the most populous tribe of Telmuns to this day.

Notable Spirits

The god of Nagiâni is called Lularak, the keeper of the Milkabbu. He is associated with doorways and with war, and the Ṣabutu speak of him opening and closing the Milkabbu within them. This term translates roughly to "war-gate", and they use it to describe the internal change from being peaceful to being violent. When Lularak has opened the Milkabbu within a person's heart, war and violence are the only solution they can see. Only then Lularak closes the gate can peaceful solutions be sought. Lularak is also said to love sweet and sugary things, and offerings of syrup are known to tempt and influence him. In some stories, Lularak will one day grow drunk upon sugar and open the Milkabbu at the heart of the world, causing a time of total war until he closes it again.

Geography

Nagiâni is at the center of a group of thirty-five islands that comprise the southern tip of the Telmun Islands. It is by far the largest and possesses more than three-quarters of the group's total landmass. The other islands are small and uninhabited, except by ancient ruins and faded ghosts.

Nagiâni is a long, thin island. It stretches 110 miles long, and is almost 60 miles across at its widest point. A low ridge runs down the center of the island, and it is here that the best known ruins are found. The shoreline is sandy and flat, and the largest feature along the coast is the Bay of Ṣabu on the eastern coast.
