Telmun Islands (tɛl.muːn ˈaɪlənds)
The Telmun Islands are a small archipelago consisting of about 50 islands in the Southeastern Region. The largest island is called Menâme, and it accounts for around 83 percent of the archipelago's total landmass. These islands are the home of the Telmun people, and were the origin of the mighty Telmunic Empire of history. The islands are also known for abundant iron ore and the quality of their iron and steel, one of the resources that made the empire possible.
While the glory days of the Telmunic Empire are long gone, the Empire is still the official government of the archipelago. When the Malika of Saba first begain raising the armies she would use to overthrow the Nagarajya and establisht the Malikate, she allied with the last of the Telmunic emperors, providing him a number of magical services in return for his support. Later, after the Malikate was fully established, she convinced him to name her as his heir and sole successor, and the Malika of Saba became the Empress of Telmun upon his death. She still holds this title, and the Telmunic Empire operates as a protectorate of the Malikate of Saba.
Points of Interest
The largest city and capital of the Telmunic Empire is Mina Hunda on the island of Menâme. There is found the magnificent temple dedicated to Ninzikla and Ensag, called the Egalgula. It was considered the one of the finest buildings of the ancient world, and scholars travel from all over the Great Ring to study and admire it. Mina Hunda is also the location of Hundaru's Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the Ring of Light. It is one of very few to have an ascended eidolon as its divine presence, in this case the eidolon of the legendary conquerer Hundaru of Telmun.
