Personal history
Devotion was born in Rhylstone to two Seeker parents. She was thoroughly devout for her entire life, and chose her virtue name accordingly when she was 17. She grew up as close childhood friends with Wit, and as adults they married and had their only son, Kairos. Shortly after Kairos' birth, Luna offered her and Wit the opportunity to let Kairos ascend. Devotion, who wholly believed the Seeker's lore about Oasis coming to kill every Mortal in the near future, decided that this would be the best way to keep Kairos safe going forward. Kairos was supposed to be returned to them afterwards, but was not. Luna claimed that Oasis accepted him into the Neverplane.
Devotion tried to view that in a positive light, as being accepted into the Neverplane is the highest honor any Seeker could hope for, but she missed Kairos unbearably. Several years later Luna approached her and Wit to offer them the opportunity to ascend. Devotion accepted, in hopes that she could join Kairos in the Neverplane.
The promise of ascension was a front for Luna's experiments. Devotion's last memory was being put under fantasy anesthesia. Luna implanted an Ether Core into Devotion and exposed her to the Neverplane. The core stabilized Devotion's transformation and prevented her from dying or mutating in the process. She became an etherbeing but survived, and when she was recovered she was incorporated into the generator, where she would stay for 15 years.
In 999 The Party discovered the generator. In an attempt to free the trapped Etherbeings Dante destroyed the control panel. In doing so, he killed them all. He recovered their cores and went to speak with Wit about etherbeing resurrection, completely unaware of Wit's relationship to her. She was successfully resurrected, but had no memories of the time between her anesthesia and her resurrection.
