Personal history
Wit was born into the Rhylstone Seekers. While generally devout Wit occasionally questioned the Seekers' beliefs. Wit grew up in Rhylstone with Devotion and as adults they got married and has their only son, Kairos. Shortly after Kairos' birth Luna approached Wit and Devo to offer Kairos ascension. Kairos was supposed to return afterwards, but Luna claimed that Oasis accepted him into the Neverplane.
A few years later Devotion and Wit would also be given the opportunity to ascend, Devotion takes it and Wit refuses. Luna approached Wit afterwards and informed him that Devotion was also accepted into the Neverplane.
Several months later Wit, in the throes of a crisis of faith as well as newly developed alcoholism, broke into Luna's office to confront her. He didn't find her, but snooping around the room he did find the experiment log which revealed to him the truth of Kairos' ascension. Wit realized that he couldn't trust anyone in Rhylstone, so he took the report and whatever of his own belongings he could carry and fled. He floated around various locations on Elos before settling down at the Northern Lumidae Tower after being offered a position as an etherbiologist professor.
Since leaving Rhylstone his life's purpose has been exclusively to find a way to bring Kairos and Devotion back.
He would get his wish 17 years later when, through a series of unfortunate events, Dante resurrected Devotion and learned that he himself was Kairos.

Wit heavily blames himself for Kairos' death because he willingly gave Kairos to Luna for ascension, even though he didn't know the truth of the matter until several years later. He's been passively (and sometimes actively) suicidal ever since.
